Ripple Effect (RE) is registered and licensed Foreign Charity. RE Ethiopia was established in March 2006 and works to see a rural Ethiopia that is confident, thriving, and sustainable, with a growing economy and higher living standards for all. RE focuses on three thematic areas; Farm Systems, Gender and Social Inclusion and Enterprise Development to help to combat poverty and works to create a rejuvenated and abundant African environment for both current and future generations.                                                  

We are recruiting a Gender and Social Inclusion Advisor/Officer for Ripple Effect (RE) projects planned to be implemented in Wolaita Zone. For this vacant position we will consider applicants who have Bachelors’ degree in Social Work and Social Administration, development studies or other related field. Desirable postgraduate training in gender and social development; Community leadership and management; or rural development; knowledge in extension services delivery who have 5-7 years’ experience at field level in Gender and social development; practical experience in implementing Gender projects in the field, and the associated documentation; experience of leading, supporting, managing, a team; experience of organizing and conducting trainings and workshops at different levels’ experience in a number of different approaches to extension and use of media for community learning. Desirable experience in NGO work; experience of project proposal writing and fund raising; community development experience; experience in research and development in Gender. Essential strong leadership ability; excellent communication skills; good presentation skills; report writing skills; excellent interpersonal skills; strong networking skills; able to participate on a policy level with government and other; development partners; ability to identify funding opportunities; an initiator and self-driven; a team leader, builder and developer; a broad and mature thinker; a strategic thinker with an eye for detail; creative and innovative; a flexible team player; understands the importance of confidentiality especially for data; have empathy with Ripple Effect’s Christian foundation and core values.

Knowledge, training and qualifications

Essential:

·         Bachelors’ degree in Social Work and Social Administration, development studies or other related field.

Desirable

·         Postgraduate training in gender and social development; Community leadership and management; or rural development.

·         Knowledge in extension services delivery

Experience

Essential:

·         5-7 years’ experience at field level in Gender and social development

·         Practical experience in implementing Gender projects in the field, and the associated documentation.

·         Experience of leading, supporting, managing, a team

·         Experience of organizing and conducting trainings and workshops at different levels

·         Experience in a number of different approaches to extension and use of media for community learning

Key responsibilities

Policies and project implementation

·         Ensure all projects are being implemented in line with Ripple Effect Uganda’s Gender and Social Inclusion training manual, wider Ripple Effect policies and procedures, and according to Programme Management Guidelines.

Capacity Building

·         Identify and facilitate implementation of appropriate strategies and tools to increase the capacity of staff, partners, and Community resource persons on all and any aspects of Gender and Social Inclusion approaches and Principles.

·         Coordinate and mentor Community resource persons individually, and as a group of specialised member volunteers.
