Job Description

1. Hierarchical & Functional links:-

The Community Mobilizer will be based in Jijiga and will be under the supervision of Program Officer

2. Essential Duties:

  • Liaises with communities and local administration on a day-to-day basis and ensures active involvement of communities and other stakeholders to mobilize resources, coordinate activities and ensure active participation of beneficiaries. The position is tasked to take a lead in community mobilization activities and community engagement on sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence and female genital mutilation activities. The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for facilitating the implementation of community-based activities within the IDP camps and host communities to ensure that communities are empowered, and they contribute in prevention of maternal and child health morbidities and mortality. Collects relevant data and information necessary for project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Key activity areas will include:-

  • Mobilize and facilitate the engagements of community and stakeholders including local authorities through context-based community mobilization strategy.

  • Support and facilitate network and coordination in the implementation of planned community mobilization activities to promote uptake of health (curative, preventive and promotive) services in the targeted project a

  • Closely work and plan with the mobile health team in developing and establishing

  • community interventions for creating health service demands

  • Lead in community needs assessments and surveys and propose appropriate responses.

  • This job description covers the main tasks that are anticipated. Other tasks may be assigned as           necessary.

3. Responsibilities

Community strategy:-

  • Promote and install sense of ownership among the beneficiaries through community engagement activities or design appropriate activities for the enhanced beneficiaries’ involvement.

  • Keep the key community stakeholders updated about the project

  • Community mobilization activities:

  • Plan for weekly/monthly mobilization/outreach and adjust to a flexible activity scheduling.

  • Organize awareness raising and sensitization sessions on various maternal and child health issues.

  • In close collaboration with the MHPSS staff, promote psychological well-being of individuals who require MHPSS services in the project locations, including those who have suffered S/GBV

  • Mobilize and facilitate active participation of community members, especially women in utilization of health services in the project sites

  • Support local authorities in planning of social mobilization, training activities and tools development as needed.

4. Coordination:-

  • Coordinate and establish network for the social mobilization, when required and as deemed necessary, with other humanitarian actors operating in the same area

  • Represent community level meeting, workshop, training on behalf of MdM and share report.

5. Monitoring and reporting:-

  • Plan for and establish effective beneficiary communication and feedback system.

  • Submit a monthly report to program coordinator.

Job Requirements

 Expected profile:-

  •                 Degree /Diploma in Health Education. A higher-level qualification would be an advantage.

  •                 Minimum two years of experience and trained in the area of social mobilization.

  •                 Experience in social mobilization, community organizing, within Health in the Somali region.

  •                 Work experience in maternal child health is an asset.

  •                 Excellent communication / facilitation skills

  •                 Understanding of gender equality and inclusion

  •                 Ability to access and analyze social dimension to adapt according to the context.

  •                 Ability to classify and manage priorities is required

Preferred:-

  •                 Experience/knowledge in the Somali region.
