ZOA’s programme in Ethiopia

ZOA works in several regions in Ethiopia: Gambella Regional State (field office in  Gambella Town), Somali Regional State (field office in Dolo Ado and Melkadida refugee camp), Tigray Regional State (field office in Shire and Mekelle), Oromia Regional State (field office in Harar), Amhara and Addis Ababa. In Ethiopia, ZOA works with Internally Displaced People (IDPs), host populations, persons with disabilities, returnees, and a large population of refugees who fled a combination of violence and drought in Somalia, South Sudan and Eritrea. 

Your challenge 

The learning and evidence coordinator is responsible in designing and implementing a system for gathering, interpreting and managing the learning generated by and necessary for the successful implementation of the programmes. He/she will provide support for thematic areas to meet/exceed the MEAL minimum quality standards, also develop and implement minimum requirements related to evidence & learning as part of the overall MEAL strategy, and also work with various stakeholders in documenting program successes and processes to guide implementation of the interventions at scale;

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

System design and rollout:

  • Developing standard operating procedures and documentation for evidence and learning;

  • Ensure that a learning culture is fostered within the organization and the learning & evidence is an integral elements of programming;

  • Working with MEAL team, develop the associated tools required to implement the learning & evidence minimum requirements to ensure that roll out is standardized in all programme area;

  • Working closely with sector specific advisors and program technical staff to promote understanding of the importance of learning & evidence to achieve quality programming;

System Management:

  • Assist country MEAL manager to keep track of all project evaluations and, in coordination with technical/ project managers, design best practice & documentation TOR, provide briefings to consultants and provide logistical support to ensure assessments happening smoothly;

  • Ensure documentation in all levels  and Upload all MEAL products on ZOA Manager and website per requirements

  • Compose  a range of strategies and practices used at organizational level to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable adoption of new organizational knowledge;

Communication and reporting:

  • Coordinate, collaborate and oversee best practice consolidation with all thematic area’s;

  • Assist MEAL manager in regularly analyzing and producing reports on best practices and case studies;

  • Ensure effective storage of assessment, surveys and evaluations and/ or organizational knowledge on the shared folders, and to use this knowledge base to promote learning across the organization;

Information and data  management:

  • Prepare strategic briefs and other resource materials ( e.g. presentation, information packs) to be used by country Office;

Others:

  • Be proactive in identifying and undertaking new and better ways of best practice &learning , knowledge management, use of technologies, identifying better opportunities and approaches and rolling out into country office programs;

  • Participate in relevant knowledge management training opportunities and networks;

  • Perform any other activities based on line manager’s assignment;

2.     Allowances

  • Transportation allowance:  ETB 5,000  per month.

  • Airtime Allowance: We provide data and airtime to enable you to conduct your work outside of the office.

  • we provide a closed user group so you can speak to your colleagues at no cost.

  • Food Allowance: we provide lunch daily at our offices, ZOA pays 600 ETB per month and staff contribute 400 ETB per month.

  • Severance payment: one month’s salary for an extra service year..

  • Transfer Allowance: We provide transfer allowance of 10,000 ETB If, in case of you permanently shift or transfer to a new programme area.

3.     Paid Leave

We recognize you have priorities outside of work.

Our flexible paid time off package gives you the flexibility you need.

  • Annual Leave: 20 days of annual leave in addition to public holidays, and you are also granted one extra day for each extra full year.

  •  Enhanced Maternity Leave provision, 4 months

  • Paternity Leave 5 working days.

4.    Insurance

 Provident Fund  + Pension: : 32% (22% from ZOA and 10% from You.

 Life insurance  

 Medical Insurance: We also covers your dependents, and your medical expenditures are covered by ZOA up to 100% of each invoice, up to a defined maximum refunded amount of Br 200,000 ETB  per annum.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum masters/Bachelor’s degree : preferable in statistics, project Management, software engineering  and equivalent qualification;

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience on evidence and learning documentation within the emergency &humanitarian, and development sector, working in program management, technical, and or MEAL roles including in learning and evidence responsibilities, preferably linked to one of ZOA Ethiopia priority technical sectors (Food security & livelihood, WaSH, Education, Shelter

Knowledge ,Skills and Ability:

  • Direct experience of working with communities in participatory activities.

  • Experience and knowledge of systems for accountability to affected population including information sharing ,the participation of beneficiaries, and feedback and reporting mechanisms;

  • Ability to prepare and facilitate technical MEAL training and workshops across countries in the region ( including remotely);

  • Direct experience working with communities in participatory activities;

  • Skilled at communicating and influencing across relevant teams and offices;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of teams or groups;

  • Strong remote working abilities and self-motivated;

  • Willingness to travel to field sites;
