INTRODUCTION

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009.  With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender-based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

he aim is to support the Safety Unit in ensuring the safety and security of DRC staff and assets through the implementation and compliance oversight of relevant policies and procedures. The guard plays a key role in the implementation of the DRC Access control procedure.  The guard will work under the supervision of the Safety and Access Manager (SAM) with day-to-day coordination with DRC Guards Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the security of DRC staff and property

• Secure DRC facilities including all the vehicles parked in the area 

• Patrol facilities regularly when it is not occupied, especially at night

• Control access to DRC facilities

• Monitor work like loading/unloading from vehicles

• Assist in keeping the facility and workspace clean.

• Enforce DRC’s no-weapons policy 

• Welcome visitors; ensuring the visitor’s book is signed and direct visitors to the office 

• Report any security incident to the safety

• Follow DRC safety and SOP guidelines

Job Requirements

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

• At least 2 years experience in a similar position, ideally in an NGO or UN Agency

• Basic English proficiency

• Fluency in the local language

• Good eyesight and physical ability to perform roles (perimeter checks etc)

EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)

• Grade 8 and above.

LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)

• English skills will give an advantage

• Fluency in local language

• Proficiency in any other local language preferred
