Introduction
Ethiopian Red Cross (ERCS) and the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) have a long-standing partnership. Over the years, several activities in various sectors (health, DRR, water and sanitation, Disaster preparedness and response) have been implemented with satisfactory results. Furthermore, NLRC provides Organizational Development support to ERCS, both at the HQ and Branches level.
Some of the projects jointly implemented by ERCS and NLRC have mid-term timeframe (1 to 1,5 years) and demanding monitoring and reporting modalities from the donors. Particularly, ERCS and NLRC just initiated ECHO HIP 2023 project aimed at addressing basic needs of the vulnerable populations affected by conflict & displacements in Amhara, Southern Tigray and Benishangul-Gumuz. The Action is a collaboration between the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) as coordinator, Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) as local implementing partner, German Red Cross (GRC), Danish Red Cross (DRC) and Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) as co-partners, all contributing with technical expertise and experience in the target locations. In the meantime, ERCS and NLRC will implement a Chronic Crises project aimed at improving basic needs of the vulnerable populations in North Wollo, Wag Hamra and Northern Amhara. Additionally, more projects are under development under the DRR/Anticipatory Action and resilience framework in various parts of the country. A multi – sectoral response intervention is currently also unfolding in Tigray.
Excellent quality monitoring of these projects is essential to ensure that real-time assessment of performances can be made, including delays in implementation, and necessary adjustments proposed.
