Job Title : Welder

Reports to: Senior Mechanic

Department: Technic

Location: Adama Industrial Park, Adama

Job Summary

Responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in production machineries and equipment, fabricating components, supporting installation of new machinery by operating appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Operate hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment such as oxyacetylene torch and electric welding machine

  • Setup and install welding components/equipment according to set specifications by using tools such as calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces

  • Repair machinery components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment by welding pieces and filling gaps

  • Read drawings and take measurements to plan layout and procedures

  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding operations by operate grinders, cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture 

  • Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and hand tools

  • Check finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances,  test and inspect welded surfaces to identify and fix possible flaws 

  • Monitor work equipment to ensure usage is within optimum temperature to avoid overheating or expansion

  • Operate welding equipment based on safety standards 

  • Ensure cleaning of workplace after finishing the work

Job Requirements

Required Competencies

  • Successful completion of COC

  • Able to using variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, Cast, SS welding)

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings

  • Skilled in using welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)

  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and PPEs

  • Professional certification in welding is a plus

  • Attention to detail

Qualification

  • TVET (10+3), diploma or above in general mechanics, metal fabrication and related field of study

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing environment

  • Experience in plastic manufacturing and recycling environment is preferred
