Job Description

Conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity and forests - Climate Change Cluster

Contract End Date - 31.07.2024

The Project “Protection and sustainable use of natural resources in Ethiopia” aims to strengthen the capacities of institutions responsible for protected areas and forests for a climate-resilient management of selected landscapes in accordance with the interests of the local population. The upcoming new module of the project introduces innovative implementation approaches that promote a wider collaboration among local stakeholders, partners, communities, as well as the engagement of private actors in the restoration of degraded landscapes; the use of digital solutions for improving partners’ capacities and efficiency; and the expansion of the timber value chain.

The project implements activities at federal level, at the regional level in SNNPR, SWPR and Amhara, as well as in remote areas in the field.

The Biodiversity and Forestry Programme shares an office space with the Forests for Future as well as the Natural Resources Stewardship Programme who also are in need of mobility services.

Against this background, GIZ-BFP III is recruiting one Driver as outlined below:

Responsibilities

  • Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles

  • Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles

  • Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes, and locations

  • Running official errands and assisting with other office work

  • Drives assigned vehicles safely and transport GIZ-BFP staff, Forest for Future and Natural Resources Stewardship Programme staff, official visitors, and partners to official destinations.

  • Prepares the vehicle for heavy duty off-road trips in the field (reserve tires, repair kit, water, first aid and safety equipment);

  • Reports in case of accidents, injuries, and vehicle damage to the fleet management.

  • Reports the need for maintenance to the fleet/logistics officer.

  • Read and understand all regulations regarding driving and passenger management.

  • Helps with transporting goods.

  • Completes the vehicle logbook correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards.

Detail Tasks

  • Drive assigned vehicles safely and chauffer project and GIZ-BFP staff, Forest for Future and Natural Resources Stewardship Programme staff, official visitors, and partners to official destinations.

  • Prepare the vehicle for heavy duty off-road trips in the lowlands (reserve tyres, repair kit, water, first aid and safety equipment)

  • Take careful note of all available information concerning street conditions, effective routes, security, and locations.

  • Report the need for maintenance to the Fleet Manager.

  • Immediately report any involvement of the office/program vehicle in any, even minor accidents, or any damage or theft of equipment from the vehicle.

  • Fill the logbook according to regulations.

  • Read and understand all regulations regarding driving and passenger management.

  • The Driver performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Secondary school level

  • Possession of valid driving license

  • Required language skills: Working level of English

  • Familiarity with SNNPR, SWPR and Amhara region, sound knowledge of road and safety regulations.

  • At least 5 years of working experience as driver with references (no accidents caused)

  • Proven experience of driving in rural areas and off-road areas

  • Vocational training in Auto mechanics is of advantage.

  • Previous Job experience with international organizations is of advantage.
