Emory University is dedicated to implement a community based Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and nutrition interventions to support the Ministry of Health’s efforts to increase access to and utilization of Quality Maternal and Newborn Health and Nutrition Services.
The country office activities are aligned with Emory university’s priorities of global health and its strategic focus on Ethiopia. Emory University Ethiopia is seeking Research and Documentation Coordinator based in Emory Country Office, Addis Ababa. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director, the Research and Documentation Coordinator will be responsible to plan and coordinate the implementation of operational researches, documentation and related tasks with a focus on maternal, newborn and child health and other priority areas of the organization.
Specific Functions and Responsibilities:
Plans and implements, document changes achieved through various project activities.
Develops data collection tools, questionnaires, lead and apply qualitative and quantitative research techniques; writes procedures manuals for data collection and coding;
Prepare detailed work plans, time lines, and lead research project team for planned operational research.
Ensures that all stakeholders are appropriately consulted, required ethical clearance and other necessary documents are obtained to conduct studies;
Plans and coordinates data collection with Emory Atlanta team, Deputy Country Director, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning advisors and other technical program team, government counterparts (MoH, RHB, Local universities) and donors;
Responsible for the documentation, write up and dissemination of study results
Designs and conducts project activities evaluations and analyzes and interprets findings;
Work closely with MEL advisor and technical team to promote and lead results documentation, inter-project sharing and use of lessons learned and best practices;
Formulates and implements practical communication strategies aimed at increasing the knowledge of targeted audiences about Emory projects and activities; campaigns, promotional/educational materials, and presentations/posters at different relevant events.;
Support documentation and dissemination of project activities through various communications channels (web stories, project briefs, newspaper etc.);
Document and share best practices and lessons learned by Emory University to government, donors, communities and other stakeholders using workshops, annual professional association, written, electronic media, newspaper and other opportunities they arise;
Responsible for the communication, publication and documentation works of Emory University projects;
Increase the visibility of Emory among the public and the international community through international conferences, by giving presentation, poster sessions and publications in peer
reviewed journals;
Keep records of operational progress, various meetings and other events both in written and audio-visual form;
Initiate and maintain strong network with different partners and media agencies to disseminate information to the public;
Works collaboratively with regional staff and other stakeholders to collect and catalogue evidence on best practices, success stories and challenges;
Identifies and recommends opportunities for ongoing improvements in support of best practices and in compliance with organizational standards;
Review and finalize reports prepared by regional and national technical staffs and share with the Deputy Director and Emory Atlanta team for final review and submission to donors
Prepares bidding documents and TORs for research activities, documentations and ensure its implementation in line with the procurement policies of Emory university
Liaises with external research collaborators (e.g. WHO, UNICEF etc.) on specific research protocols conducted in partnership with Emory University;
Explore and solicit new funding possibilities, coordinate new project development
Support the country office in development and submission of high-quality concept notes and proposals
Working Conditions and Level of Travel Required
Level of Travel: Frequent travel to the regional offices and field sites
Terms of employment: One year with possible of extension
Duty station: Addis Ababa
Number required: 1 (one)
Salary: Based on organization salary scale.
Educational Qualifications & Work Experiences
Medical degree with MPH, Master’s degree in Health education and promotion, public health, communications, public relations, or other related fields
5 years of relevant experience for Master’s degree and 7 years for B.Sc degree in health education, promotion and documentation field
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience on -implementation research (qualitative and quantitative) in both agrarian and pastoralist context;
Knowledge and prior application of participatory methodologies.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with donor, project stakeholders, in-country collaborators and staff at all levels of the organization.
Able to work with scientists from Emory university in project implementation, exchange of faculty and students and research activities
Broad understanding of public health and the health system in Ethiopia.
Has demonstrated experience working within resource and budget constraints.
Highly developed and demonstrated writing skills including donor reports, project proposals, scientific articles;
Experience in project success documentation, best practices, reporting and dissemination.
Knowledge, skill and experience in research, assessment, and evaluation and proven capacity in data management, analyze/compilation, synthesize, and report writing
Ability to analyze and interpret research information, reports, documents, standards/requirements, and policies and procedures.
Ability to work independently to assess and fulfill requirements for project evaluation and promotion.
Extensive working knowledge of computers including statistical software including SPSS, STATA, Epi-info; PowerPoint, publisher
