About PETCO Ethiopia Recycling Community Organization

PETCO Ethiopia Recycling Community Organization (PETCO Ethiopia) is a non-for-profit And Volunteers Producers Responsibility organization incorporated in 2019 to represent the Ethiopian manufacturing industry’s joint effort to self-regulate in waste recycling. PETCO Ethiopia seeks to minimize the environmental impact of post-consumer plastic on the Ethiopian landscape through growing the collection & recycling of plastic waste; supporting existing & new green jobs and recycling initiatives; and promoting a strong focus on public & consumer education & awareness programs. PETCO Ethiopia operates throughout Ethiopia and has its head office in Addis Ababa. 

PETCO Ethiopia in partnership with GIZ NatuReS Program is implementing a sustainability Empowerment and provide training B2B Platform to industry actors in the recycling industry. Thus, the overall objective of this project is to ensure women have a sustainable livelihood and economic and ensure the recycling digital platform link collector and aggregators with recyclers.  The major intervention of the project will be conducting skill gaps assessment on B2B & basketry, provision of skill training, creating market link for the recycled products, and documentation of best practices for knowledge management.

The employee will be responsible for implementing the activities of this project under the supervision of the program Manager. PETCO Ethiopia seeks to hire a professional under the following capacity:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate and lead project activities by providing technical support to ensure sustainability of women empowerment program in Addis Ababa (Kirkos, Yeka, Lemi-Kura and A/Ketema Subcities): some of the activities are but not limited to:

  • Conduct a skill gap assessment jointly with Addis Ababa Cleansing Management Agency and project sub-city focal persons on women Basic Business Skills and Basket Weaving and deliver a consolidate assessment report with recommendation for intervention. 

  • Work closely with Addis Ababa Cleansing Management Agency and project sub-city focal persons.

  • Facilitate market linkage for women product mainly baskets and organize an exhibition for all SMEs in the basketry production jointly with all stakeholders. 

  • Coordinate the training of BBS and Basketry in all sub-cities jointly with a consultant. 

  • Compiles data including socioeconomic data of beneficiaries for statistical tabulation and analysis; submits comprehensive reports to relevant stakeholders.  

  • Lead capacity building training, mentor and provide backstopping service to targe beneficiaries.

Job Requirements

COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in project management.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Waste Management, Environment, Geography and Environmental Studies, NRM, Social Sciences, or   relevant field 

  • Demonstrate experience and passion in the areas of women empowerment projects. 

  • Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the organization.

  • Good communications and organizational & interpersonal skills.

  • Builds professional networks with institutional partners.

  • Sought for advice by peers, subordinates, leaders.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments and requirements and multitask as needed.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Excellent knowledge of written Amharic and spoken English are essential.

  • Demonstrates integrity and ethical standards.

  • Preferable: experience working with SMEs engaged in waste management.
