Child Safeguarding:

Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post holder may require to have regular contact or access to children or young people.

Role Purpose

Under the direct supervision of CO gender Adviser /AO Gender and inclusion Specialist, the post holder is expected to meet the Gender standard practices in the AO and field area.  

She/he will be responsible to assist projects/programs/ and field offices to ensure SC gender equality commitment core action are applied though employing twine track approaches in including  gender standalone and gender mainstreaming .Position holder is expected to promote gender  sensitive and transformative culture in the workplace, ensure project and partners staff are equipped with necessary knowledge , skills  and acquainted with tools and techniques to applied .The role holder  is reasonable to  facilitate development of gender  and  disability friendly materials such as  training , IEC and others based on demand . She/he will also be responsible to lead gender related studies and ensure gender disability inclusion in thematic and any assessment. Assist project team to Gender related and other activities related with gender program activities, establishing reporting mechanism from the field offices to CO, organize and share data, learnings and lessons.

This role demands roving support for project offices at different locations under the field office for both humanitarian and development programs. 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Dimensions: Save the Children works in all regions of Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 1900 and current expenditure of approximately $190090+ million each year.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Gender

  • Conduct gender capacity assessment and build staff capacity through trainings and providing job embedded support (coaching, mentoring, experience sharing etc.)

  • Develop the capacity of partners and sharing updated information on gender and inclusion

  • Assess, identify and address the gender gaps affecting women, girls, boys and men differently to have safe and equitable participation and benefit in collaboration with project staff.

  • Promote, design, implement, and manage gender equality, youth participation, and social inclusion activities across program components.

  • Work towards mainstreaming gender and social inclusion across all projects/program.

  • Ensure the most vulnerable and marginalized populations are represented across all project components, including as staff members, project participants, trainers, facilitators, speakers, evaluators, and so forth.

  • Provide partner organizations with ongoing gender integration and social inclusion technical assistance.

  • Integrate gender and social inclusion considerations into operational design.

  • develop agree on actions to address priority gaps on gender with the field managers, and sector thematic experts, support and follow up implementation.

  • Make sure project/programs under supervision possess the necessary commitment, technical capacity and resources to make a significant contribution to gender equality and social inclusion.

  • Identify, adopt community based behavioural change and positive gender norm development interventions and promote strategies/ approaches ensure men and boys engagement in child safeguarding.

  • Coordinate and involve in facilitating advocacy and campaigning events organized to address gender inequalities and discriminatory perceptions, attitudes and practices.

  • Conduct intersectional gender and power analysis and supports the design and implementation of gender transformative monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate impact. disability inclusion is being implemented with all our partners.

  • ensuring gender and disability inclusion in thematic studies /baseline /midline /end line/, sector specific research assessment

  • Generate and disseminate evidence of best practices on gender equality and

  • Lead the collection, analysis and utilization of information from a broad range of sources to ensure effective integration of gender concerns document best practices of the project in implementing gender and youth components for learning with partners and relevant staff.

  • Facilitate establishment / strengthening of local level existing gender networks/plat forums for joint and sustained promotion of gender equality.  

  • Assist and involve in design and production of Gender SBCC manual (picture flip-books), audio and video spot messages to be used for advocacy community dialogue/awareness session on behavioural change

  • Participate actively in designing and conducting gender specific and sectoral surveys, assessments, formative and research to ensure consideration of gender dimensions, collection of sex and age disaggregated data, gender responsive data analysis and reporting

  • Support in organizing and facilitating and project level knowledge sharing events.

  • Take additional assignment when the demand arises by supervisor including external representation. 

  • Ensure program/project collected, analysed and interpreted sex, age and disability data

    • Facilitate mechanisms through which marginalised communities can measure the adequacy of interventions and policies.

    • Fosters gender sensitive and transformative approaches to ensure all children have equitable access to, participation within and benefit from interventions.

    • Make sure adequate resource is allocated to program for capacity building and learning on Gender equality and inclusion. .

    • builds and maintains effective relationships, with gender and disability team thematic colleagues, Members and external partners and supporters.

    • model positive behaviours that demonstrate a commitment to equality and respect to all colleagues, partners and communities

    • Oversee the implementation of gender and disability inclusion activities across project intervention.

    • Prepare monthly gender related activity report and share to area office manager and Gender  and Inclusion Specialist /CO gender  and Inclusion Adviser

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BA degree, or relevant combination of qualifications and experience in gender or a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in mainstreaming gender in program design, management, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in capacity building and designing and delivering.

  • Training in different projects

  • Experience on facilitation and coordination of training and workshops

  • Representational skills including experience developing networks and relationships with

  • government, civil society and other stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage workflows, balance competing priorities and work.

  • effectively in a small, diverse, remote and busy team environment.

  • Experience in conducting assessment, monitoring and report writing.

  • Practical experience on child participation on the intervention of program activities.

  • Strong computer skills, including the use of email, internet and Microsoft office.

  • Fluency in written, Reading and spoken English and Afaan Oromo

Desirable

  • Experience on gender mainstreaming, GBV case management

  • Experience on humanitarian response programs

  • Skill on illustration design and publication

  • Good understanding on national laws and procedures gender equality and GBV including children and family law
