Job Description:
Develop necessary formats and database for water quality for capturing, analysis and report production.
Engage in groundwater resource assessments and detail investigation in partnership with Drilling team, Projects offices, Program Hubs and APs and respective government offices. Prepare detail specification of drilling supplies, pumps and pumping test supplies based on the study design document and based on the request provided.
Provide technical support to WASH staffs at Projects, Program Hubs, AP and any necessary levels in implementation of different workable WASH GIS system such as Horizon GIS, M-Water tools and other innovative approaches in collaboration with WASH Division and HO MEAL team. This includes provide capacity building on Water Quality testing procedures & Monitoring, GIS and M-Water tools.
Work on the water quality issues and adopt workable and feasible remedial actions for the problems, such as treatment technologies and any other solution.
Prepare technical manuals, guidelines and checklists that provide guidance to the field staff. Take part in planning, facilitating and conducting trainings on WASH related programs (Water quality, GIS, M-Water and Hydrogeology) to staff and other stakeholders.
Ensure that the water quality of borehole drilling works is in compliance with community needs, donor’s requirements, WV water quality protocols, government policies and national standards.
Work in close collaboration with drilling, grants and finance team to handle implementation schedules. This includes handling of financial management of Water Quality and GIS related budget.
Provide support and monitoring to the Projects & APs for Water Sources and Point of Use Water Quality Monitoring. Answer inquiries from the public and respond to water quality complaints
Undertake proper assessment and advise WVE on procurement of Water Quality Monitoring kits and methods in adherence to WHO guideline and Ethiopia water quality standards. Provide support and perform water system quality assurance and operation functions
Strengthen networking with professionals in the industry and technology centers to utilize latest water quality technological developments. Coordinate and inspect the work of a variety of contractors related to water quality projects. Recognize occupational hazards, provide technical support, and ensure safety precaution procedures applied.
Assist in the planning and implementation of various public education programs related to water quality, and make presentations to community groups and associations
Promote major cross cutting themes including environment, gender, protection, disability, peace building and Christian commitment.
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
Required Professional Experience
Minimum of 8 years for MSc and 10 years for BSc working in the context/ field of WASH projects Water Quality and management
Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification
Qualification required: BSc/MSC in Geology/Applied Geology/Earth Science, Hydrogeology/ Geophysics/ GIS & Remote Sensing
Other team management exposure and basic computer knowledge (word, Excel, outlook), GIS/ArcGIS, M-Water and advanced knowledge of current up-to-date design software.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
1. Special capacity and skill working on GIS and database management is
mandatory
2. Excellent Knowledge on Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook etc),
3. Training and experience in WASH Water Quality and GIS Management
4. ArcGIS or QGIS, M-Water, Kobo Toolbox, Aquachem and other Water quality analysis software.
5. Have practical experience on drinking water quality activities.
6. NGO work experience is Preferable.
