Job Description
CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more) because he/she works at the community level. The role holder should be well acquainted with and act towards ensuring the organization’s Child Safeguarding Policy inclusive of awareness creation for prevention, reporting, and responding.
Project Overview:
The overall goal of Leadership and Economic Empowerment Project (LEEP) is to create opportunities for young women in business in semi-urban and urban areas to empower themselves to engage meaningfully in their development, improve their technical and transferable skills and have equal access to, and use of capital, resources and services to achieve economic self-sufficiency and well-being. The young women will receive the resources needed to scale their businesses, support their families and become agents of change, role models and leaders in their communities.
LEEP project will be implemented from February 1, 2023 to January 31, 2026 to address 8900 young women in business in Sidama region, SNNPR and AddisAbaba. The project has the below three objectives:
Objective I: Young women access and use assets to develop and grow their businesses
Objective 2: Young women develop capabilities, skills knowledge and attitudes to manage and grow their businesses
Objective 3: Young women live in a healthy, violence-free and supportive environment in their households, communities and society and are part of a collaborative effort to advocate for equal access to resources and services
Organize and facilitate different capacity building training and workshops for key stakeholders on women ‘s right and girls empowerment and create awareness about gender equality and rights among the local community
Organize and facilitate training for young women in business, community dialogues on women leadership and empowerment to enhance their engagement on social, economic and related participation
Conduct experience sharing visits to model women and girls on changing gender roles and responsibilities, facilitate girls inspirational session regularly
Enhancing women and girls empowerment that contribute to the undergoing national efforts to ensure gender equality and women empowerment through their meaningful participation and engagement in economy and social aspects
Maintains regular communication and interaction with government office partners to facilitate and promote learning and information sharing,
Document best practices and compile lessons learnt to ensure documentation, learning and advocacy
Mentor and coach women and girls in the project site, conduct monitoring progress and report project results regularly
Provide technical support to the project targets on gender, sexual and reproductive health including, early pregnancy, family planning, menstruation and personal hygiene,
Organize and train young women friendly SRH-FP services to health workers (HWs) and HEWs in line with the national guidelines,
Conduct SRH-FP and gender-related awareness creation trainings for target young women in targeted kebeles, particularly on SRH behaviors, stigma and judgment surrounding ARSH, life skills in developing sexual behaviors, ARSH problems, HTPs with particular focus on child marriage, FGM, S/GBV,
Facilitate linkage and work intensively with regional and local health centers and facilities to increase young women’s access and practice to reproductive health services on SRH-FP
Facilitate and support SRH and gender material provision at the grass-root level in collaboration with YES centers and health facilities/women and youth sectors
Plan and organize community mobilization platforms and awareness creation events on Gender and SRH issues,
Promote and Support YES centers’ services particularly SRH programs for the young women to access in their locality
Establish SRH clubs in YES centers and ensure strong referral linkage between YES centers and health facilities for cases require medical attention
Collect and avail informational business and SRH related materials in the YES centers
Closely follow and support the YFS/ youth-friendly services and peer educators’ activities in all health centers
Conduct Intake assessment on gender and young women reproductive health and regularly monitor their progress
Gather information and understand key gender issues in the implementation area focusing on boys and girls [e.g GBV, Earley child marriage, SRH and others] and adopt strategies to address them as necessary
Create and maintain smooth working relationship with government partners and other stakeholders and link program activities with the existing government structure
Actively participate in trucking the success and best practice documentation process of the project
Develops quality and timely reports and submits to immediate supervisor,
Carry out other work related duties and responsibilities assigned by Regional Gender and SRH coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Educational background
Bachelor's degree in Gender studies, sociology, social work, Development studies, Public Health, Health Officer, Health Promotion and Health Education, specific experience of working on gender and sexual and reproductive health aspects in rural areas and other related social science fields.
Experience
Recommended a minimum of three-year experience with solid experience in SRH/FP and gender integration.
Skills in designing and implementing gender integration policy and strategy at different institutional level.
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to travel throughout the focus zone, woredas, kebele and other rural areas as needed.
Strong results orientation.
Experience in multi-sectoral coordination.
Ability to manage complex and demanding workload.
Experience in NGO setup.
Experience working in the region and understanding of the context.
