Job Description
The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma rehabilitative services to survivors of gross human rights abuses, including torture, and works toward a future in which gross human rights violations cease to exist and victims have hope for a new life. We are headquartered in Minnesota, USA with offices in Africa and the Middle East. We work locally, nationally, and internationally through programs that provide trauma rehabilitative services, conduct technical assistance and capacity building to human rights activists, civil society organizations, and local service providers around the world who can prevent and treat gross human rights abuses, and advocate for human rights and an end to gross human rights violations.
General Description of Role
The Finance Assistant is responsible for providing support for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Logistics departments by fulfilling specifically assigned tasks to facilitate separation of duties and accountability. The Finance Assistant will report to the Finance and HR Officer based in Gambella, while also working closely with the Logistician.
Main Responsibilities
Finance Assistant Tasks:
Maintain Petty Cash account in Gambella, and disburse necessary cash for expenses upon verification that necessary authorizations are obtained and services/goods are received;
Execute payments for tax, pension, and Ethio telecom timely and correctly;
Ensure all necessary documentations are gathered for expenses made through Gambella Petty Cash, and submit them timely to the Finance and HR Officer in Gambella;
Keep organized and secure filing system for all financial documents, both in hard and soft copies; and
Verify periodically the market price for various supplies.
Administration Assistant Tasks:
Provide supervision for camp cleaner, tea maker, base cleaner & housekeeper
Deliver and maintain folders for office correspondences in Gambella;
Maintain library of various CVT policies and forms for staff use.
Human Resources Assistant Tasks:
Distribute, verify, and collect timesheets for all Gambella based staff; and
Assist in recruitment process, including posting advertisement, contacting candidates, monitoring exams, and organizing interviews.
Monitor implementation of CVT policies, including working hours and workplace behaviors in Gambella, and call attention to behaviors needing attention;
Keep track of Gambella, and camp-based staff leave and other absences;
Other Office Support Related Tasks
Provide backstopping for general office support tasks, including assisting on inventory management and other tasks assigned to him/her by Finance and HR Officer or his delegate.
Terms of Employment: Initial contract from for Twelves (12) months depending on funding availability and with a possibility of continuation.

Qualifications:
Have BA Degree/Diploma in Management, Marketing Management, Economics or Accounting with a Minimum 2 years of experience working in a similar setting for INGOs. Combination of relevant educational background and experiences may be considered.
Excellent communication, organizational, creative, and problem-solving skills.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Fluency in English and Amharic. Good knowledge of Nuer preferred.
Self-starter, flexible, and adaptable to change.
Good team player: able to take direction and work collaboratively with others.
Experience in accounting preferred
