Background: JSI is a US-based public health nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance programs throughout the world. In Ethiopia, JSI has been working to improve health outcomes for more than 25 years, implementing more than 60 projects and working in every region. JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access of, RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC) including community health program, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.

The Senior Web Applications Developer supports the web application development efforts of JSI and is responsible for architecting solutions that follow development standards and integrate with other systems, building software in a consistent manner to meet business requirements, and unit testing software components to ensure business requirements are fulfilled. The candidate must be a quick learner, and a customer-focused self-starter who is able to work independently and work well in a team environment. This position calls for someone who is able to work on multiple projects concurrently for internal and external clients while meeting project deadlines.

Position Purpose:

• Create user information solutions by developing, implementing, and maintaining internet/intranet applications and offering guidance to other developers.

• Work with product owners and end-users to identify, design and develop new application features

• Test and implement application fixes

• Configure and maintain underlying technology such as APIs, application servers, data servers and databases

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Write well designed, testable, efficient code using best software development practices

• Develop APIs for various third party applications

• Integrate data from various back-end services and databases

• Participate in design reviews and identify potential mitigation strategies for technical risks.

• Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs

• Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills

• Define and communicate technical and design requirements

• Stay up to date with current programming best practices and implement clean code principles

• Follow and suggest new and emerging technologies

• Conduct root cause analysis, review code and perform unit testing

• Collaborate with other developers to design and optimize code

• Transform business and functional requirements into technical solutions

Job Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience writing production-quality secure web applications

• Expert in at least one of the following programming languages: Cold Fusion, PHP, and Java

• Excellent problem solving skills

• Experience in Salesforce programming a plus

• Possess solid expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery

• Demonstrated experience leading integrating 3rd party applications with existing systems

• Experience using ajax type web requests that work with serialized objects (e.g. JSON)

• Comfortable working with legacy code as well as developing new solutions

• Use of source control procedures

• Concise and clear verbal and written communication

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

• Solution-oriented and high-level programming skills

• Excellent time management skills and solid understanding of Agile

Education:

• BS in Computer Science or related field
