Job Description

The gender focal point position has the role to support the Under Secretary-General and senior managers to carry out their responsibility to implement gender mainstreaming in the substantive work program.  The gender focal point reports to, and should receive support from, senior management.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide advice, when requested, on gender perspectives and safeguarding matters in all aspects of the department's work in the organization.

  •  Represent the Executive Director upon request at workshops and events requesting information on gender mainstreaming and protection in the department.

  •  Attend key relevant events on Gender and Safe Guarding and disseminate information about progress in Gender Mainstreaming and Safe Guarding to departments and managers.

  • Act as a single point of contact (first point of contact) and provide leadership on equality and safeguarding issues within the organization.

  •  Training is conducted for staff, volunteers and others to ensure gender equality and protection. • Ensuring that employees and others are aware of gender and safety policies and their associated responsibilities.

  •  Advise and support staff, volunteers and partners in implementing gender and protection policies;

  •  Conduct risk assessments or assist others in doing so as necessary.

  •  Ensuring that staff, volunteers and all stakeholders and service users are familiar with the safeguarding policy and that the policy is accessible;

  • Act as first point of contact when incidents of abuse occur, escalating concerns to management and local authorities, including law enforcement, as appropriate;

  • Keeping an accurate record of any incidents, safe guarding, and Gender issues

  • Maintaining the safeguarding implementation plan and producing an annual progress report, as requested

Employment Type: Full time with project period, depending on funding and performance

Job Requirements

Person Specifications 

  • BA or LLB in gender and development, Development studies, social work, Law, sociology, teaching, or related field of studies. 

  • At least 5 years’ experience. 

  • Good knowledge of the country’s laws, polices and different treaty and conventions

  • Good interpersonal skill 

  • Respect the organization value 

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic. Other Ethiopian language skill has an add advantage
