Job Description

I. Overview  

USAID/Ethiopia Support Program (ESP) aims to provide pathways to a more democratic and stable Ethiopia by building an enabling environment for peaceful and inclusive consensus building processes. To this end, ESP works to strengthen intra- and inter-group relationships and actions, advance inclusive and constructive public discourse. Dexis Consulting Group is USAID’s implementing partner for ESP.  

Dexis will provide the personnel, systems, and technical capacity needed to ensure that the USAID Ethiopia Support Program is operational, grant-ready, and active in activity implementation. Dexis’ Field Team brings the USAIDs experience, relevant field experience, and operations savvy necessary for Dexis to quickly research, identify, and develop grants for activities with local organizations.  

Dexis is seeking a Program Assistant –Tigray/Mekelle to support ESP. This is a full-time position based in Mekelle, Ethiopia, with an immediate start date.   

II. Responsibilities   

  • Support the Program Development Officer (PDOs) in all aspects of management of the ESP grants portfolio in Addis Ababa ensuring grant effectiveness and compliance from idea development to closeout. 

  • Under the guidance of the Regional Program Manager (RPM), support the PDOs in the activity co-creation process, particularly providing support in gathering the required documentation from prospective grantees. 

  • Support activity-level procurement; deliverable tracking; conduct field visits to support activity implementation and monitoring.  

  • Assist the PDOs in ensuring all relevant documents are appropriately filed electronically. 

  • Assist in maintaining the program events calendar for the Tigray office  

  • Support the PDOs in planning for and participating in grantee kickoff meetings. 

  • In close coordination with the PDOs, regularly update activity trackers, activity notes, or other tracking tools, and attend and contribute to GMU meetings. 

  • Other related tasks assigned by the RPM.  

III. Reporting   

This position will report to the RPM.  

Job Requirements

IV. Qualifications   

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, social sciences, or related field and minimum of 2 years of experience designing and managing grants programs for international donor-funded projects. 

  • USAID experience preferred. 

  • Experience in file management. 

  • Ability to work effectively, responsively, and collaboratively with government counterparts, development and private sector partners, civil society organizations, and academic/research institutions. 

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic 

  • Fluency in Tigrigna preferred
