Internal and External Vacancy Announcement for Dean Position

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia was established in 1974 G.C by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, we have five regional Hospitals, Rehabilitation and Reintegration center and The Hamlin College of Midwives. 

The Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia invites applicants for the following position:

Major duties and responsibilities of livestock worker includes the following but not limited to:

  • Responsible for feeding, watering, herding, grooming, weighing, catching and loading animals.

  • Develop and implement Dairy farm, Poultry production, and Beekeeping/Apiculture practicing plans and procedures in collaboration with other team members that optimize, productivity, and profitability

  • Provide training to women involved in poultry production, beekeeping, dairy farming, and other livestock works with proper procedures and protocols. And make documentation, and reporting in a timely manner.

  • Weigh and measure foodstuffs, and mix feed, additives and medicines in prescribed portions.

  • Monitor food and water supplies, and distribute feed and water to livestock.

  • Must make sure that herds are healthy and well-fed at all times. This means he/she needs to know about proper nutrition and how different types of feed affect the taste and texture of meat.

  • Drive tractors and other equipment.

  • Clean barns, sheds, pens, yards and equipment, e.g. using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, pumps, etc.

  • Groom, clip, trim, shoe and castrate animals, dock ears and tails, shear coats to collect hair, and mark livestock to identify ownership and grade using brands, tags, paint or tattoos.

  • Milk animals, such as cows and collect eggs, honey, etc.

  • Examine animals to detect illness, injury or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain.

  • Monitoring the health of animals and administering vaccinations as needed; Care for sick animals, treat minor ailments and administer medications, vaccinations or insecticides as appropriate.

  • Perform duties related to livestock reproduction, such as breeding animals within appropriate timeframes, performing artificial inseminations and helping with animal births.

  • Inspecting fences to ensure that they are secure and in good repair

  • Determining the best time to sell or slaughter livestock based on market prices or other factors such as animal reproduction cycles or drought conditions

  • Maintaining accurate records of animals, feed intake, breeding, Food costs, health, marketing activities, and weight gain or loss to help with future planning

  • Maintain farm machinery and buildings.

  • Responsible to carry out other tasks as required by the Supervisor.

Additional Skill 

  • Proficiency in oral and written communication in languages such as English, Amharic, Oromiifa, Waleytegna, Sidamegna, etc. are more advantageous.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Education

  • Level three or four in animal production program or equivalent production.

Work Experience

  • Minimum two years of practical experience in animal production, bee keeping, and poultry rearing etc.
