Alight (formerly American Refugee Committee) is an international non-profit organization with its headquarters located in the United States. Alight has provided humanitarian assistance to millions of beneficiaries in 29 countries over the past 40 years, currently reaching over 10 million refugees, IDPs, and disaster-affected communities in 17 countries around the world, helping people regain control of their lives after conflict and natural disasters. Alight maintains full-fledged humanitarian programs in Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, Thailand, and Myanmar. Alight is currently responding to humanitarian situation in Ethiopia.
The overall objective of the Alight (ARC) in Ethiopia program is to prevent death and alleviate human suffering among affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) in settlements and host communities where we work. Alight has embarked on WASH, Health, Protection, and livelihood activities in Ethiopia and expand to other parts of the Country. Alight is taking a multi-sectoral approach in responding to the severe drought conditions through a range of activities including Health, Relief Commodities and WASH.
The Ethiopia Program of the Alight (ARC) has fully-fledged offices in Addis Ababa, Mekelle, Semera, Amhara liaison offices in Ethiopia. Alight is working closely with national and regional authorities and with several Ethiopia -based international and national organizations to galvanize coordinated lifesaving humanitarian assistance to the people in need.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Under the supervision of the livelihood Officer, the Livelihood Assistant shall assist livelihoods program field activities by working directly with local partners and community members in support of Alight work to serve conflict affected IDP, returnees and affected host community. She/he will follow day-to-day implementation of project activities of Cash support for small scale business.
Contribute to livelihoods programming activities at the field level, including supporting beneficiary screening, registration, beneficiary trainings and workshops, and cash distributions.
Support implementation of community level surveys and Market assessments
Actively engage in identification of locations for livelihood project activities
Contribute to community mobilization for Cash support for business start-up through communication and information sharing with community members, local stakeholders, and project participants at the community level.
Support livelihood’s beneficiaries on business planning, income generation, group savings and loans and provide coaching through small group meetings, and following up with project participants to identify and report any challenges.
Contribute to accountability mechanisms for project participants and local stakeholders.
Support the filing of beneficiaries profiles and documents and updating of data (both hard and soft copies)
Ensure Alight representation at site level coordination with all relevant stakeholders and community groups.
Prepares weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports and timely submit to immediate supervisor.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or designate.
BA degree in a livelihood, cooperatives, agriculture, sociology & other related fields.
Minimum 2-years’ work experience with humanitarian program in the fields of livelihoods.
Experience in working with NGO Environment
Hands-on experience in cash-based interventions in general, and cash-for work, micro-credit, and revolving fund.
Must be able to function effectively in complex work environment, set appropriate priorities and deal effectively with numerous simultaneous requirements.
High level of administrative and organizational skill and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work, manage, and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Aptitude for problem solving and decision making needed.
Capable of managing conflict and conflicting views
Operational knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Fluency in English & Amharic (Oral and Written); other local languages are preferable.

Clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
The ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients is essential.
Ability to lead, train, supervise, facilitate, and motivate other GBV staff in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner.
Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills with ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding work environment.
Excellent personnel management skills, including diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills.
Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
Experience collaborating in protection, gender and human rights related activities.
