Assistant Researcher (Laboratory Logistics and Quality Management)
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (MNTD) Division in AHRI run several projects in collaboration with local and international organizations. To facilitate the bridging of the division with the local and foreign procurement, import and export, field and laboratory supplies logistics management, the MNTD would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Assistant Researcher (Laboratory Logistics and Quality Assurance) for the projects within the Malaria Team.
Key Duties and responsibilities
1. Manage all aspects of the laboratory store, including inventory management, procurement, and storage of laboratory supplies.
2. Implement and maintain efficient systems for tracking inventory levels, ensuring accurate stock counts, and minimizing waste.
3. Oversee the logistics process, including receiving and distributing laboratory supplies to various teams within the department and field teams.
4. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards for laboratory management and quality assurance.
5. Train and supervise staff members involved in laboratory store operations to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
6. Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to negotiate favorable pricing terms and ensure timely delivery of supplies.
7. Ensure the smooth running of the laboratory store while maintaining strict adherence to quality assurance protocols.
8. Follow up the import of laboratory supplies and equipment with the procurement team.
9. Ensure the laboratory supplies and equipment quantities are as per the order list when stock in and report to the concerned project coordinator when there is a deviation between actual quantity and order list.
Required qualifications and work experience
Education: A Master's Degree in Laboratory Management and Quality assurance.
Work experience:
ü At least two years proven experience as a qualitative researcher.
ü Proven experience working in a laboratory store or logistics role within a scientific or healthcare environment.
ü In-depth knowledge of laboratory management practices, quality assurance protocols, and inventory control procedures.
ü Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with various stakeholders effectively.
ü Proficiency in using computer software applications relevant to inventory management systems.
ü Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Other Competencies
· Competency in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel
· Fluency in English communication (spoken & written)
· Prior experience with donor-funded projects; willingness to be multi-tasked in admin, finance, and logistics; and willingness to take up out of office tasks

Term of Employment: Full time contract basis for one year with possible extension based on performance and budget availability.
Salary: ETB 15,767.00
