Job Description

Purpose:

  • The purpose of the SCDD Manager position is to integrate and localize JTI's Global Leaf Sustainability Strategy, Social Programs (GSP, ARISE and ALP), lead Supply Chain Due Diligence process and Human Right Due Diligence in JTI Ethiopia Leaf in a well-tailored manner with robust stakeholder and regulatory affairs management under the supervision and control of Leaf Supply Director.

Main Areas of responsibility:

GSP, SCDD, HRIA and ALP

  • Based on the observations and community data, develop innovative, tailored, and effective GSP and SCDD projects that support the strategic and business priorities of JTI policies.

  • Support the implementation of ALP in NTE to gather, analyze and interpret all ALP observation and community related data in support of developing the GSP/CI strategy.

  • Ensure proper selection of 3rd party services or suppliers (when such are needed) in cooperation with local PPO.

  • Make sure adequate resources (human and financial) are allocated to ensure effective and timely execution of program.

  • Manage and provide leadership to the Agronomy team to deliver on the identified programs to attract and retain best performing grower communities.

  • Ensure appropriate after implementation evaluation is done to assess the effectiveness/impact of the Social Program.

  • Ensure best practices approaches are captures and proactively shared with management. Leadership Communications

ARISE

  • Manage all aspects of the Ethiopian ARISE

  • Proactively identify potential issues, suggest sound solutions, and manage all stakeholders and partners in support of these programs.

  • Ensue reporting requirements are followed in a timely manner while maintaining relationships with the partners, government, communications, and other stakeholders.

 Communication:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication and engagement plan to JTI Ethiopia Leaf to build JTI Ethiopia’s reputation as a responsible, caring, and engaging business in Ethiopia in collaboration with JTI Ethiopia Corporate Affairs and Communication Director.

  • Collaborate with JTI Ethiopia Corporate Communication team on internal employee engagement and communication campaigns.

  • Ensure periodical visibility is given to the Social Programs and SCDD progress internally using the most appropriate communication channel in cooperation with local function.

  • Ensure projects are well documented and support reporting.

Stakeholder and Regulatory engagement:

  • Develop and implement internal and external stakeholders’ engagement plan (employees, local government, communities, NGOs) in collaboration with JTI Ethiopia Corporate Affairs and Communication Director.

  • Represent JTI GSC Leaf Ethiopia team on government engagement platforms in collaboration with JTI Ethiopia Corporate Affairs and Communication Director.

  • Monitor regulatory environments affecting tobacco leaf production and implement a pre-active engagement plan.

Annual strategic plan:

  • Support the development of the Leaf CA&C, GSP/CI and SCDD ASP to ensure all identified GSP/CI and SCDD initiatives are planned, budgeted, and aligned to the overall business objectives and GSP principles.

  • Participate in managing all elements of the GSP/CI and SCDD budget to ensure efficient and effective use of JTI's resources. Monitor progress monthly of all CA&C leaf related projects and costs and where necessary, take corrective action to ensure delivery within budget and agreed timelines.

 People management (if applicable)

  • Recruit, motivate and guide the professional development of the team reporting directly and indirectly to the incumbent.

To lay down and execute management policies for the department he/she is assigned.

Upon obtaining appropriate authorization, to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, dismiss or assign employees reporting to him/her.

Manage various tasks and projects as they arise and upon manager’s request. 

Job Requirements

Qualification:

  • BA Degree in Law, Social Works, Project Management or Communication.

Work Experience:

  • 6 years in Corporate Affairs, communication or related fields.
