Program Description:

The USAID-funded Ethiopia Civic Engagement Activity is a four-year activity with the overall goal to strengthen Ethiopia’s civic fabric in support of more inclusive, peaceful, and responsive governance. The project aims to strengthen civic and community-based actors’ capacity to engage in policy analysis, advocacy, dialogue, and collective action for peaceful, democratic change; and foster multi-stakeholder civic partnerships in support of inclusive dialogue, respect for human rights, and advancing more effective, citizen-responsive, and accountable governance.

Position Summary:

The Driver will provide transportation support to project staff. The Driver maintains project vehicles and log of vehicle use, cleans, and follows up on vehicles’ services timeframe for the wellbeing of the vehicles in conformity with Creative’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Reporting: The Driver reports to Regional Hub Finance, Grant, and Admin Officer

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for record-keeping for each trip to ensure vehicle usage activities comply with Creative SOP and USAID Rules and Regulations.

  • Report any mechanical faults in good time for repairs to be carried out and cross check to see that the repairs were well done.

  • Ensure vehicle is kept secure, clean, and tidy and in good working condition at all times.

  • Ensures vehicle is safe to drive and equipped with the relevant accessories.

  • Actively monitor the mechanical conditions of the vehicle, and arrange regular vehicle maintenance including check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.

  • Assist in ensuring vehicle insurance and registration are current.

  • At all times, ensure that copies of vehicle insurance, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts are available.

  • Respect traffic regulation as per the Road Transport and Traffic regulation.

  • Learn and comply with all security requirements when driving and using the project vehicles.

  • Provide administrative and clerical support as requested, including in preparing, copying, collating, binding, filing, and distributing documents, mail, and notifications.

  • Provide logistical and administrative support during events and meetings.

  • Report and advise on any risks and/or incidents that may impact project-related travel.

  • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through minor repairs, timely oil changes, checking of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.

  • Ensure every passenger wears Safety Belt before start driving the vehicle.

  • Avoid using mobile phones when driving vehicles at any time & place.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds.

Job Requirements

  • Prior excellent driving technical skills and experience with good knowledge of traveling routes of project intervention areas.

  • Knowledge of the local region, driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, and defensive driving skills

  • Diploma or certificate in auto mechanics

  • Valid Ethiopian driver’s license and safe driving record/history.

  • Skill in minor vehicle repairs.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision.

  • Proven punctuality and ability to work as part of a team and excellent references a must.

  • Excellent judgement and strong commitment to safety and security of project staff, beneficiaries, and partners.

  • Proficiency in English a plus.
