The Carter Center country office in Ethiopia, which assists the Government of Ethiopia in Disease Elimination and Eradication Programs is looking for a qualified professional to fill the following vacancy for its Health Program:

Summary of Job Description:
1. Takes lead role on RB (90%) and LF (10%) related research activities including but not limited to:
• Assists the program in identifying key research agendas and coordinates the operational research as approved by the program.
• Leads and facilitates the development of operational research activities including the development of proposals, seeking approvals and team deployment to field works.
• Organizes publication and writeup workshops, coordinates, and facilitates different forums aiming to obtain ideas, innovations, and inputs on research agendas.
• In close consultation with the PM, identifies topics relevant for operational research, drafting manuscript writeups or technical report for publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Works closely with the PM, the HQs and other team members in the preparation of annual project development including plans for impact and stop MDA surveys, Pre TAS/TAS studies, PTS activities and monitoring and follow up of sentinel sites for both RB and LF programs.
2. In close consultation with the PM, M&E officer, data manager and other RB/LF team retrieves and analyzes program data to share with program decision makers using statistical software (Epi Info, SPSS, GIS, and STATA) and other epidemiological parameters.
3. Coordinates onchocerciasis Elimination Mapping, impact and stop MDA surveys, PTS investigations and other operational assessments for program monitoring and evaluation.
4. Keeps track recording of the historical data including the baseline, interim and final evaluations put it into archives for later dossier preparations.
5. Encourages team members to provide inputs on new ideas, concepts and proposals for program monitoring, evaluation, and improvements.
6. Prepares and shares concept notes, study designs and protocols and facilitates letters of support from entitled organizations to get IRB approvals, ethical clearance, and consenting approvals in doing different assessments and research activities.
7. In collaboration with the PM, organizes result dissemination workshops and makes scientific presentations of data analysis and interpretations on research outputs in the in country or abroad, when approved by the designated officials.
8. Assists the PM in designating and executing new research activities, operational assessments, and publications.
9. Works with the program manager to provide regular survey status updates including research findings to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), Regional Health Bureaus and Food, Medicine and Healthcare Administration and Control Authority (FMHACA) as appropriate.
10. Contributes to and oversee the development/revision of RB/LF elimination guidelines, research implementation guidelines, Abstract handbooks, training manuals, materials, and Participates in RB/LF elimination workshops, meetings organized by MoH and RHBs, as approved by the PM.
11. In consultation with the Program manager, either together or alone attends and contributes to the national technical working group on RB and LF scientific forums, task force and review meetings,
12. Compiles monthly, quarterly, annually, and periodic activity reports focused on RB and LF researches related activities and keeps updating the PM< and other team members on regular bases.
13. Perform other duties as instructed by supervisor.
Qualification:
MSc, MPH in Epidemiology, Public Health, Monitoring and Evaluation, Health Informatics or Biostatistics from a recognized university.
Experience:
Relevant experience of minimum seven years preferably on NTD projects.
Additional Requirements:
· Relevant publications in public health, preferably in peer-reviewed international journals
· Ability to work in team and demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills
· Very good knowledge in Microsoft soft wares (Excel and Access) and statistical soft wares ( EPi Info, SPSS and STATA).
· Very good English language communication skill (written and verbal).
· Readiness to travel to various project sites sometimes to remote locations for longer period of time.
· Capacity to develop/update data base from which he/she generates monthly and annual reports for the Trachoma program
· Capable to coordinate baseline surveys and impact assessments for program monitoring
· Capable to give input as appropriate, into study concept notes, protocols, ethics applications, data analysis, reporting and dissemination of research.
· Capable to lead on and/or contribute to drafting papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
