Position: Finance Analyst - British Office Sudan
Salary: USD 1,087.42

The main purpose of the job:
The British Office Sudan (BOS) is looking to recruit a Finance Analyst who will play a key role in providing oversight, assurance and advice to teams spending UK aid in Sudan.
The Finance Analyst will report to the ODA Finance Manager and be part of the Operational Excellence team led by the Deputy Development Director. Together you will work with programme teams to ensure value for money for the UK taxpayer is at the heart of FCDO programming and investments. The successful candidate will also work alongside corporate partners, including commercial, HR and IT advisors, to promote a corporate ethos in your business area.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with good finance and analytical skills. The successful applicant should have advanced Excel skills, be a good communicator and able to work alongside colleagues across a range of grades.
Roles and Responsibilities:
In this role, the Finance Analyst supports the effective oversight and quality assurance of the UK’s aid spending in Sudan. The post holder will have a strong background in finance, alongside excellent analytical ability in order to support the Finance Manager in evaluating the portfolio’s financial performance and risk.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing, analysing and discussing management information with stakeholders including the Development Director, Finance colleagues and Programme teams.
Leading the extraction, consolidation, and quality assurance of key financial information, across multiple years.
Managing and analysing data in Excel and other tools: using Pivot Tables and functions to combine data across multiple tables and transform it into relevant management information.
Holding regular meetings, supporting and challenging programme managers on finance forecasts and programme pipelines.
Assisting the annual budget process for the office, working with stakeholders to provide realistic budget requirements and supporting the Finance Manager in delivering the overall position.
Assisting the Finance Manager to improve the local finance capability of non-finance professionals.
Preparing and submitting corporate returns and accounting packs, including large cash payment forecasts and year-end returns.
Developing an understanding of external partners to raise awareness on counter fraud, corruption, and risk management, assisting in the due diligence process with programme teams.
Working on the monthly budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring that data provided for monthly finance reports is timely, accurate and robust, and enabling the department to make informed decisions on the allocation and management of resources to ensure that public funds are in the correct place and spent effectively.
You will work with colleagues in the Operational Excellence Team and across all policy & programme teams to strengthen the application of controls, deepen understanding of fiduciary risks, manage any allegations of fraud/corruption and ultimately deliver more impactful ODA programmes.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Experience of working collaboratively with business or programme managers as well as with other finance staff to provide an accurate financial position, along with robust forecasts.
Have the confidence and enthusiasm to present complex financial information to a diverse audience including non-finance colleagues. Ability to understand end users’ needs and provide the information in a way that takes this into account.
Able to review current systems in place and make recommendations that will improve the quality of service received by end users.
Ability to manage conflicting workloads in order to achieve tight deadlines, adhering to the finance annual timetable and responding to ad-hoc requests as required.
Have the courage to make changes to improve efficiency and challenge the basis of decision-making.
Can demonstrate strong analytical skills with attention to detail to produce financial analysis. Can draw on advanced excel skills in order to produce this.
Experience in a finance role with similar or related responsibilities is essential.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Experience of working in the International Development or Humanitarian sector.
Arabic language skills.
Prior experience working on or in Sudan.
It is desirable, but not essential, that applicants hold or are studying towards a qualification with one of the five Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies [CCAB] i.e. ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAI, ICAS; or CIMA, or AAT; or someone who has undergone a period of equivalent structured training and accreditation in a specialist area of finance.
You are also expected to demonstrate the following technical competencies:
Reporting and control: provision of information to support and advise on policy development, provision of management advice and supporting the business to deliver their objectives.
Decision Support: collate and provide management information as well as offer some advice and support on analyses and interpretation of the data.
Operational finance: demonstrate a good knowledge of accounting processes and doing or overseeing transactional work such as posting or approving journals, performing/ reviewing reconciliations, etc.

Working patterns:
This opportunity is full-time and the postholder is expected to work the British Office Sudan’s working pattern.
The British Office Sudan can offer flexible working such as remote working, however, no part-time or job-share given how instrumental the role is to BOS’ programme objectives.
Additional information
This post will be based in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). The rest of the BOS team will be based in between London, East Kilbride and Nairobi (Kenya).
Travel requirements: There may be occasional travel requirements, however, will be reviewed, dependent on business need, on an ongoing basis and dependent on where the Programme Hub team are located.
The British Office Sudan may have further vacancies in the coming months and if there are other suitable candidates, we will use this recruitment to develop a pipeline of reserve candidates, for approximately 1 year.
