Abebech Gobena Charity is an indigenous, non-governmental organization founded by the devoted mother, Abebech Gobena (Dr.(h.c.) with a vision of seeing a nation in which every child attains its fullness and becomes responsible and participating citizen. The organization founded in 1980, which was the time of severe drought in Ethiopia. Since its establishment, it undertook commendable accomplishments in the areas of orphans and vulnerable children. It has also been working on women (especially mothers of children) through skill training, capacity building, feeding of lactating mothers and other women empowerment activities. Abebech Gobena Charity has been running programs like alternative basic education, HIV/AIDS prevention care and support, women empowerment, youth empowerment, health, food security, agriculture, family planning, reproductive health and community capacity building activities. Through its entire carrier, the organization contributed a lot in the Sustainable Development Goals.

Over the last four decades with the relentless efforts of the founder, Abebech Gobena (Dr.(h.c.), and genuine support of humanitarian organizations and individuals, Abebech Gobena Charity helped hundreds of thousands of needy children and over 1.5 million of underprivileged people with different poverty reduction programs. Currently it is supporting thousands of needy children both institutionally and via different intervention programs in the community. Moreover, orphans and vulnerable children, in and out of school boys and girls, people living with HIV/AIDS, affected individuals and families, underprivileged young girls and women, women returnees from Arab countries, unemployed youth, and all other disadvantaged community members are directly or indirectly benefitting from the various programs undertaken by the organization.

Though a lot has been done to address the existing economic, social, and humanitarian problems in the past four decades in the target areas, there are still great and alarming problems existing in the community that need the intervention of indigenous non-governmental organizations like Abebech Gobena Charity.

The organization is now looking for competent candidates for Program Coordinator/Resource Mobilization Specialist Position.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall project preparation, implementation including planning (monthly, quarterly and annual work plan and budget), budget management and coordination with program team;

  • Coordinate and integrate projects;

  • Work closely with partners/ donors;

  • Serve as resource person for program activities and represent the organization during various program related thematic meetings and discussions;

  • Oversee all program administration, financial management of the project;

  • Participate on project proposal and develop the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP);

  • Provide technical input to program team regarding timely and quality implementation of the program activities;

  • Project budget management: track project spending, analyze deviations and suggest timely corrective measures;

  • Ensure all information are captured and organized in report template, and submit to the immediate supervisor for further qualification before submitting to the donor;

  • Prepare project case studies related to the implemented activities to be incorporated in the report and/or as requested;

  • Launch and organize/coordinate, and successfully execute fundraising campaigns/ events; 

  • Identify social problems develop/ write project proposal to tackle identified problems, and secure grants by communicating with potential donors;

  • Write/ develop resource mobilization proposals and submit to the Executive Director for approval;

  • Search potential donor organizations/ philanthropic individuals convey organizations mission vision and success stories in order to secure grants and to meet organization’s financial plans;    

  • Maintain strong communication with donors and keep them in the loop; 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual report;

Terms of Employment: One year contract, with possibility of extension 

Place of Work: Addis Ababa, Head Office

Job Requirements

  • BA/BSc or MA/MSc Degree in Sociology, Social Work, Economics, Psychology, Project Management, Business Administration or other related fields.

  • 8/10 years and above demonstrated relevant NGO experience, for MA/MSc and BA/BSc Degree holders respectively, of which two years must be in managerial position.

  • Excellent proposal writing and resource mobilization skill

  • Excellent public speaking skill

  • Fluency in writing, reading and speaking both English and Amharic languages

  • Excellent computer skill (Microsoft Office Suite of Programs)
