Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.
HFE, which was established in 1974 G.C by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin, has been caring for the women of Ethiopia for almost 60 years. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa we have 5 regional Hospitals, Rehabilitation and Reintegration center and The Hamlin College of Midwives. We deploy midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.
Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia in collaboration with Stakeholders is going to implement a Partnership program called Woreda by Woreda (WbyW) PZ project; to enable Woredas to be free of obstetric Fistula. The W by W program as a pilot will be applied at Oromia Region, Buno Bedelle Zone, Didessa Woreda. This W by W strategy will be used to identify historic cases of obstetric fistula and continue to implement quality intervention for prevention of new obstetric fistula cases. For the successful implementation of the program, HFE wants to employ experienced Patient Identification Officer to be part of the program interventions, trainings, and mentorship in the areas as per the given job responsibilities.
Job Summary
To collaborate and technically support Metu Hamlin Fistula Center and relevant Zonal and Woreda offices and other stakeholders in the prevention of obstetric fistula, Identification and referral of hidden patients and facilitate their treatment. Actively participate in woreda by woreda Fistula Eradication project team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Patient Identification Officer includes the following, but are not limited to:
As a member of “Woreda by Woreda” team, coordinate Zonal Health Desk, Woreda Health Offices, Health Centers, health posts and other stakeholders to identify hidden fistula cases, awareness creation and strengthen the existing referral system.
Coordinate activities for patient identification and facilitate for treatment in collaboration with the “Woreda by Woreda” team, Metu Center and other partners as per the action plan of the national fistula task force.
Submit timely report providing details of patient identification, trainings and other activities.
Organize trainings to Health Center staff and health Extension Workers on fistula patient identification and referral linkage.
Participate in organizing resources to make sure that individual plans for patient reintegration and livelihood care appropriately implemented.
Participate on ‘Woreda by Woreda” pregnant women cohort study and other surveys as part of fistula prevention.
Participate in Monitoring and evaluation activities of the woreda by woreda program.
Participate in training of HEWs on using mobile data entering software (application).
Perform other related tasks as requested by the center head and the woreda by woreda team leader.

Qualifications:
Education Requirement BSc or MSc Degree in Midwifery and in maternal and child health related fields.
Work Experience 4+ years’ experience in managing and coordinating maternal and newborn health system or program.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent skill of computer software packages
Ability to take appropriate individualized patient history
Ability to screen and confirm obstetric fistula with appropriate method.
Ability to organize training for midlevel heath workers
Strong interpersonal, intercultural communication skills,
Able to work well both within a team and independently under stressful conditions.
Fluent in English, Afaan Oromo, Amharic languages and able to communicate with other local languages is preferred
Proven facilitation, team building, and coordination skills.
Willingness and ability to travel for extensive field trip.
Proven analytical and strategic planning skills and ability to prepare evidence based reports
Being an active listener and critical thinker is recommended.
