Job Description

SOS Sahel Ethiopia has obtained funding support from Christian Aid Ethiopia to implement extension phase of: “Enset from Living Larder to Wealth Creation for Resilient Highland Communities in Southern Ethiopia, Wolayita Zone Project” in Boloso Sore & Damot Pulasa Districts. SOS Sahel Ethiopia is accepting applications from qualified, experienced and interested individuals for the position mentioned here under:

Purpose of the Role

The Business Development Expert is a technical position with the overall responsibility to lead and manage the business development and management of the project. The expert works closely with Program Manager at the organization Head Office in Addis Ababa.

Specific duties and responsibilities of the post are outlined below:

  • Lead the overall business development and management activities of “Enset Value chain” in the project operation districts;

  • Assess the potential Enset business options for cooperatives, youth , women and farmers and advise and support them to take up;

  • Leads and facilitates mentoring of  the business plan development and  implementation by Enset producers cooperatives,  individual households and farmers;

  • Ensure the creation of commercial partnerships between Enset producers and relevant value chain market actors;

  • Leads and supports the vocational training of the established cooperatives and ensure their self-employment or employment by private agencies;

  • Facilitate refresher training for enterprises management committee on enterprise principle financial management and basic business skill trainings and support the enterprises to have sound financial system;

  • Ensures Business Development activities adhere to the project principles, values and standards, and to  the MOUs and donor Grant Agreement;

  • Documents key business development and management  lessons and  share with stakeholders;

  • Ensures the tools, equipment  and  materials procured for business development and management  are properly delivered and used by the beneficiaries;

  • Ensures networking, coordination, harmonization and synergy of the program with other actors and initiatives operating in the program area;

  • Performs other activities assigned to him by the organization.

Duty Station: Sodo Town in Wolaita Zone

Remuneration & Benefits:  As per SOS Sahel Ethiopia salary scale

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • MA/BA Degree in Business Development or Agricultural Economics or Business Management with at least 5 years of related work experience

  • Skill of Value chain assessment, business plan development and management, strong command of English language
