Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Irrigation Specialist is responsible for the coordination and efficient operation of all field activities of TOV program within JDC and its partners.  Responsible for all aspects of TOV Program drip irrigation design, installation, follow up and maintenance. Conduct some administrative work within the JDC Ethiopia office, including inventory, administrative procedures, and monitoring of field staff.

Tasks

• Work closely with and support partners pilot programs, for the demonstration of drip based irrigable agriculture and other agricultural technologies.

• Practically train government extension staff, TOV interns, Union experts, staff of partners and make them capable to conduct technical evaluation, design the system installation, forecast/ plan items require, install the system, and give practical technical support on how to operate and maintain the system.

• Facilitate and support the Unions for on time procurement of local materials such as HDP Pipe, Geo-membrane, etc.

• Support on time delivery of drip system for the installation sites and install the drip system for the target clients on time.

• Support and closely follow excavation of reservoirs, trenches, to facilitate on time installation of drip system.

• Develop site plan, design drip kits installation, and install drip systems.

• Provide maintenance service for the drip systems at the farm level.

• Provide practical training and technical assistance to farmers on drip systems operation, maintenance, end season flushing, lateral folding, etc.

• Conduct on time inventory of stokes at the Union warehouse and report on time for the TOV team and other relevant stakeholders.

• Take all information of target clients and partners such as name of farmer, location, number of drip kits installed, date of installation, GPS locations, area covered by the system, etc.

• Perform other duties as and when assigned by the immediate supervisor and the Country Director.

Job Requirements

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years experience working on Drip system irrigation and installation of a drip kit.
