Job Description

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Performing cupping/tasting of coffees and proper reporting of each coffee samples received on a daily basis

  • Prepare samples for cupping (hulling, roasting, weighing, grinding, etc.) on daily basis

  • Assisting the trading department make decisions regarding coffee samples cupped

  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure consistency within the lab.

  • Organizing the storage of samples in the sample room and assisting in routine procedures, preparing samples to be dispatched

  • Supervise and Coordinate the cupping laboratory properly and in an organized fashion

  • Organize and manage inventory of all coffee samples in the lab and storage

  • Make sure to keep laboratory and cupping supplies clean and ready for use

  • Prepare cupping reports and follow it has been updated daily

  • Train and educate staff under the QC team on coffee quality and cupping techniques

  • Perform other jobs as required.

Summary of the Role:  Will be responsible in understanding the needs and requirements of the sales office and communicating the quality standards to the Trading Team as well as be responsible to taste coffee samples in order to evaluate the features of the product and determine the coffee quality

Job Requirements

Academic Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or other related fields

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in coffee cupping and quality control

  • Q-grader Preferred

  • Additional qualification or certificate is a plus

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Competences

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to detect subtle changes in coffee flavor and aroma.

  • Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

  • Have good understanding for how laboratory is managed.

Languages

  • Fluent in English, and Amharic.

  • Additional language is a plus.
