Job Purpose:
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Gender Lead, the Gender Expert will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support on the integration of gender across FSDE programs. The Gender Expert will receive technical guidance from the technical team of FSDE and ensure that gender dimensions are adequately integrated into all institutional processes and functions, including strategic planning, project design & implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation. The Expert will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement gender- responsive strategies, policies, and programs aimed at fostering an environment conducive to leveraging finance for economic empowerment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Analyse & Strategize
Develop and implement gender-sensitive monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of interventions and track progress towards gender equality goals.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning through gender-sensitive tools and resources and provide regular reporting and corrective actions for gender-related indicators.
Keep up to date on global trends, developments, and key international issues in the key technical areas relevant to the work of the FSDE.
Work together with the gender lead and technical team to develop gender strategy, research agenda, plan, and budget. Generate evidence through a participatory process involving technical experts, academic partners, and data analysis to inform decision-making.
Program Design and Implementation support
Provide technical guidance, resources, and tools on integrating gender and inclusion in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and activities.
Support the FSDE team in developing detailed implementation plans with clearly defined gender-intentional activities to ensure project success and share learnings from intervention design across FSDE team.
Ensure that program activities are carried out with cultural sensitivity while promoting gender equality and inclusion of marginalized groups.
Support in project ideation and conceptualization through collaboration on the design, writing, and reviewing process.
Support the development of targeted interventions towards improving financial inclusion for women in Ethiopia.
Ensure that FSDE programs and interventions designed to promote financial inclusion should be gender-sensitive and address the specific needs and challenges faced by women.
Advocating and Communicating
Design and facilitate better communication within the FSDE team, including sharing updates and learnings from external stakeholders.
Contribute to communication about FSDE activities, such as developing content for written materials/websites, and participating in campaigns.
Support the development of gender-sensitive tools and resources to facilitate knowledge sharing and learning.
Represent the FSDE in public forums and networking opportunities and at all times, behaving in a manner consistent with our brand and values.
Team Coordination and Capacity Building
Design and deliver training programs and workshops to enhance staff and stakeholder understanding of women's economic empowerment.
Conduct research and review on women's economic empowerment, analyse the data, and generate evidence to inform decision-making.
Provide regular reports on gender-related indicators and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Conduct a gender-focused capacity development program for the FSDE team staff on issues related to economic empowerment, strategy and gender mainstreaming.
Support FSDE team members in monitoring and reporting project results and objectives against gender support activity indicators.
Carry out any other duties or special assignments as assigned by the Management.
Qualifications and:
Master’s Degree from a recognised learning institution in a relevant subject.
Relevant further degrees or professional qualifications are an advantage.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
Essential Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
At least 6 years of working experience in an economic empowerment context; with a strong focus on inclusive finance for women and/or other marginalised groups.
Ability to meaningfully analyze gender-related issues so as to develop practical approaches/ strategies for enhancing women’s participation, empowerment and capability.
Good knowledge and understanding of inclusive finance and financial sector development and of the market systems approach.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, leading to an ability to influence and persuade others; ability to liaise convincingly at a Senior Management level.
Experience of managing budgets, managing risk, and ensuring value for money.
Desirable
