Medical Teams International (Medical Teams) is a humanitarian relief agency focused on providing life-saving medical care for people in crisis. Scope of work/ job purpose:
Under the direct supervision of the MEAL Manager, the scope of the Survey coordinator is to coordinate the preparation, data collection and cleaning of baseline surveys (KPC Survey) of PRM grant implemented by Medical Teams International in Berhale refuge camp of Afar region, Ethiopia.
This role with Medical Teams is a dynamic one and undertaken in a resource-challenged setting, thus this assignment requires flexibility. The broad outline of activities offered below recognizes that details may change in order to address needs identified in the field. The Survey Coordinator has a possibility to be engaged in more than one surveys, where a single survey may take up to 20 days on activities including training of data enumerators, piloting of tools, data collection and data cleaning. The Survey Coordinator will be flexible, able to manage time, and be prepared to tackle other tasks commensurate with role, and level of experience, on short notice
Detailed responsibility and tasks:
Survey Planning
Familiarize with the assessment protocol and the tool.
Advise on minimum requirements for enumerators to be recruited for the survey.
Adhere to the survey timeframe and coordinate with field teams on recruitment and logistics plans including household list collection and communication with the communities.
Update the local language translation of the questionnaire local l, if necessary.
Develop and share materials for enumerator training in time for review before field deployment.
Training
Coordinate with MTI to identify the exact location and date of training.
Ensure tablets/phones have the latest Kobo application installed for training and piloting purposes.
Conduct enumerators’ training including field practice (pre-test) and competency review.
Share test results with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Manager before implementing the survey.
Data Collection
Prepare schedule / data collection plan and organize enumerators accordingly. r
Guide team to select respondents according to the sampling methodology.
Conduct in-person data collection using phones or tablets for the selected samples.
Ensure quality of data through close supervision during data collection.
Supervise and support data cleaning. Follow up to ensure identified anomalies are addressed.
Communicate frequently with the MTI team to update on status of all data collection activities.
Daily update to the MTI focal person on the status of data collection and as well as any changes to the schedule.
DELIVERABLES:
Selected site mapping document for data collection, with final check by MEAL Manager.
Listing of the respondents
Enumerator training presentation detailing operational definition of terms, special cases and standardized data collection procedures.
Completed and signed consent forms of respondents.
Raw data set in Excel with the agreed upon number of completed interviews per the sampling methodology

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTFICATION
The Survey Coordinator should possess at least a Minimum of a Post Graduate degree in: Public Health, Epidemiology, Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, Project Management or Community Development Studies with proven experience in quantitative household survey data collection and analysis.
EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of public health preferable managing and leading surveys.
Demonstrated experience conducting and leading KAP and/or KPC Surveys.
Experience collecting data with Kobo Collect.
Ability to train, guide and supervise a data collection team.
Ability to work independently.
Excellent communication and written skills in English and knowledge of local languages
