Job Description
‘Kelem International School (KIS) is a pre-KG to Grade 10 school that was originally established under the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1946. The school has been redefined as an independent not-for-profit school since July 1st, 2019.
We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant for the coming academic year 2023-24.

Currently the student-body of 200 represents 28 different nationalities. Kelem International School follows the Finnish curriculum blended with international standards for G1-10 and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) for KG. We are a fully accredited international School by Cognia Global Commissions.
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will prepare financial statements, prepare payroll, prepare financial analysis, prepare budget utilization reports as well as variance analysis and report the same to management. Furthermore, the Senior Accountant will also Interpret current policies, practices, plans, including implementing new financial operating procedures. In addition to, ensuring and monitoring the proper collection of the school’s revenues, along with ensuring the organization meets legal requirements from different government agencies.
Key roles & responsibilities:
Analyzes operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred.
Records, maintains, analyzes budgets, and prepares periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs.
Reports budget utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
Develops, implements, modifies, and documents budgeting and cost systems.
Checks term tuition collections and updates outstanding balances.
Prepares revenues and expenditures variance analysis and submits reports to the management.
Prepares taxes owed summary, ensures compliance with tax payment and other tax requirements.
Updates charts of accounts and assigns entries to proper accounts.
Other duties
Collaborate with appropriate personnel
Support with the development and revision of policies and handbooks
Input into school policy making where appropriate
Attend school functions and meetings when required
Board meetings and retreats when necessary (and any other related duties assigned by the Board and principal).
Reports to: Finance and Operations Manager
Coordinates with: Accountant, Administration Assistant, Admissions Officer, HR Manager
Working Hours: Monday - Thursday (7:30 am - 4:30 pm) and Fridays (from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm).
Qualifications:
First Degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting, or related discipline
Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, preferably in an international or community school.
Special Trainings:
Peachtree & QuickBooks accounting practical experience.
Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly in Excel.
