Fortune newspaper is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic reporter to join our newsroom department.
Fortune has been a formidable presence in Ethiopia’s media landscape for the last 24 years. The editorial team responsible for much of the content available through our print and digital outlets is composed of dedicated staffs who are working 24/7 to provide reliable and accurate information.
The work environment entails meticulous research digging through documents and conversations from stakeholders that could take up a significant part of the day.
A reporter working for Fortune will be expected to handle parallel tasks under strict deadlines throughout his /her tenure.
Passion for a career as a journalist of the highest caliber will be of utmost importance to enable the reporter to tolerate long nights, journeys to government offices and continuous learning.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate an ability to write investigative articles, feature stories, and analytical pieces.
Applicants must be well-versed in the news and have the ability to uncover stories about the economic and business sectors.
Candidates must be able to write five originally sourced news stories each week, in addition to an unspecified number of shorter, non-reported daily briefs.
The ideal candidate for this job should handle the pressures of daily deadlines and not be intimidated by workload pressure and stress.
Source interesting, newsworthy stories each week.
Follow up on leads, in person whenever possible and via telephone in other cases.
Have or develop adequate understanding about the topics covered by the publication.
Attend and document various events, such as conferences, exhibitions, court hearings, etc.
Improve journalistic and writing skills through feedback and discussion with editors.
Communicate with editors in a timely and efficient manner.
A strong passion for journalism and a desire to pursue a career in the field
Willingness to work late nights and irregular hours to cover breaking news, meet deadlines, and contribute to the fast-paced nature of journalism.
Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Fresh graduate of journalism, law, Economics, English literature field of study from recognized university with a fluent command of English (both in spoken and written form) is required. A strong passion for journalism and a desire to pursue it as a career are essential qualities for this position.
Must be able to clearly convey information and have strong writing and excellent portfolio skills in English.
Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment and meet deadlines.
An eye for detail along with critical thinking.
Prioritizing and multitasking.
