Job Description
Girl Effect is an international non-profit organization that builds media that girls want, trust and need.
From chat-bots to chat-shows and TV dramas to tech, our content is reaching millions of girls in Africa and Asia to make choices and changes in their lives. Igniting their confidence to act differently at a time that can define their future.
We create safe spaces for girls, sharing facts, and answering questions about health, nutrition, education, relationships and so much more. And we use innovative technology so we can reach girls at scale. We arm girls with the skills to negotiate and redefine what they are told is possible, so every girl can choose to be in control of her body, her health, her learning and livelihood.
When a girl unlocks her power to make different choices that change her life, it inspires others to do so too. She starts a ripple effect that impacts her family, her community, her country. That’s the Girl Effect.
Yegna is Girl Effect’s youth brand in Ethiopia. It encourages positive behavior change for girls in Ethiopia by tackling real-life challenges through entertaining stories and music. Yegna is Ethiopia’s most successful youth brand - with national reach. The brand is rooted in Ethiopian culture and reflects the realities of young people in Ethiopia today. It sparks conversations about the positive role girls can play in Ethiopian society and challenging the way people think about girls - and the way girls think of themselves through the use of TV drama, on the ground engagement in schools and diverse government and private sector partnerships .
Girl Effect is looking for someone to lead the design and delivery of content, products, and branded experiences for adolescent girls and young women in Ethiopia.
The role will report directly to the Country Director, Ethiopia and work closely with the global Create team at Girl Effect. The role requires in-depth collaboration with both internal technical experts and functions, and best-in-class external expertise - designers, filmmakers, technologists, content creators and producers - within Ethiopia’s ever-evolving media landscape. The Creative Lead will deliver the brand experience that millions of adolescent girls and young women from vulnerable backgrounds want, love and need when it comes to their health, education and skilling choices.

You’ll need to make sure the Ethiopia Create function is using the right people, processes and principles to produce great results, guiding and inspiring teams along the way. In this context, the role will need to be able to move, sometimes rapidly, from detailed, hands-on interrogations of scripts or product features to high-level discussions on the strategic direction of our work. The Creative and Content lead is a mediator and translator: translating complex human behaviors into blueprints for achievable products and ideas, ensuring the right channels, formats and creative concepts are used. You responsibilities on a day to day basis may include:
Work with a dedicated in-house creative team and external suppliers to ensure that engaging, strategically relevant content is regularly being developed and delivered across all of Yegna’ s touchpoints - social media, communities, analogue and digital media
Building on and evolving innovative ways in which to create and deliver content and product experiences that will deliver on the goals of the Yegna Brand and our Ethiopia country strategy.
Oversee the Brand, Content and Product Creation Process for Yegna and any other products- working with technical experts and creators both in-house and out-sourced to create scripts, casting ideas, frameworks, and treatment designs that ensure that we are helping adolescent girls and young women from vulnerable contexts discover life-changing ways in which to navigate the complex challenges and opportunities they face

Work closely with the Marketing (Audience Acquisition) team to ensure we meaningfully reach and grow our audiences.
Ensure timeline management of the entire production process is done in a way that all stakeholders are sighted, and that pressure on delivery is minimized.
Working closely with the global Create team and technical experts to evolve the content offerings to ensure they are delivering on key annual strategic goals and funder objectives. Key stakeholders include those working in Social & Behaviour Change Communication, Gender, Youth Participation, and Safeguarding.
Understanding the learnings and data presented by the Impact team, and working with the Programme team and technical experts to improve Yegna’s creative products and content basis this - being a key part of the MERL (monitoring, evaluation and learning) process
As we continue to scale and grow - we are hugely ambitious for our future and we are looking for people who are driven by this to change the world for girls.
Our teams are a diverse mix across sectors (non-profit and commercial) and specialisms (from Brand and Creative through to Gender and Insight). You’ll learn and grow in an environment that will challenge you to think and work with a fresh perspective.
At Girl Effect, you can expect to work somewhere where you will be stretched and developed in your role, a place where you can build your career and work with talented, engaged people committed to our cause to create a lasting impact.
This role is being recruited on a 24 month contract basis.
