Project HOPE has commenced implementing a research project “Pathways for Ethiopia” through a grant received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The purpose of the project is to understand, reach, and serve vulnerable populations in Ethiopia through applying the “Pathways” method https://www.projectpathways.org/about. Specific objectives of the project include to: identify factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, and Nutrition (RMNCHN) services utilization and health outcome, conduct population segmentation based on the key sources of vulnerability, and intervene to effectively reach the vulnerable segments of the population. The project also envisions to build the modelling capacity within the Government of Ethiopia health system to nurture evidence-based PH decision making practice.
Project HOPE wants to employ a qualified and experienced Senior Pathways Advisor as per the specifications provided below.
POSITION TITLE: Senior Pathways Advisor
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1 (One)
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator, Pathways Ethiopia Project
DUTY STATION: Addis Ababa
DURATION OF CONTRACT: 12 months with possibility of extension
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and implement a national survey and a qualitative study to identify factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor RMNCHN services utilization.
Conduct primary and secondary data analysis (including systematic reviews and geospatial analysis) and develop technical reports, policy briefs, and journal articles.
Conduct population segmentation based on the evidence generated from the primary and secondary data sources.
Translate the evidence into an implementable program to effectively reach the vulnerable segments of the population.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Statistical and geospatial analyses of national surveys (including Demographic and Health Surveys, PMA, Zero-dose survey, National Service Provision Assessment Survey, and other secondary datasets) to identify factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor health outcomes.
Conduct population segmentation based on the sources of vulnerability identified.
Design, conduct, analysis, and writeup of systematic reviews based on published literature.
Design and implement qualitative studies including analysis and write up qualitative data.
Design and implement a national survey.
Translate the data coming from primary (qualitative and quantitative) and secondary data sources into practice.
Lead recruitment, training, and field supervision of qualitative and quantitative data collectors
Develop technical reports, policy briefs, media briefs, and journal manuscripts based on primary and secondary data sources.
Organize and provide capacity building trainings to project staff and different stakeholders.
Regularly communicate with the principal investigator, Implementation Science Advisor and Pathways fellows of the Project.
Provide technical guidance and support to Regional Coordinator and Research Associate.
Regularly communicate with key stakeholders of the project including National Data Management Centre (NDMC) at EPHI, relevant directorates at Ministry of Health, Public Universities, and others.
Discharge other related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator and the Senior Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for this position should hold a PhD degree in Public Health or Biostatistics or Epidemiology from a recognized higher learning institute.
Hold more than ten years’ experience in research designing, implementation, write up.
Good publication track record.
Comprehensive understanding of designing, implementation, analysis and write of systematic reviews, qualitative studies, geospatial analysis, and surveys.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to travel to outside Addis Ababa including hard-to-reach and conflicted-affected areas.
