Centre for Justice (CJ) is a civil society organization dedicated to the advancement of Human Rights,  Rule of Law , Governance  and Peace & Dialogue in Ethiopia through a mix of advocacy & Lobbying, research and practical programmes.

Center for Justice (CJ) jointly with UNODC-Ethiopia Office obtained funding support from European Commission for Legal Aid Service Provision in the framework of the EU Support to Criminal Justice Reform in Ethiopia. The Support to the provision of legal aid services in the Ethiopian Criminal Justice System will be implemented nationwide. The program aims to improve access to justice for all. More specifically, the program seeks to deliver activities and outputs that would target CSO and university legal aid service providers with financial and technical support towards improved availability, accessibility and quality of legal aid services in the Ethiopian Criminal Justice System. The program also addresses each of the following sectors: legal aid services to arrested, accused and detained persons and victims and survivors of crime; capacity building to legal aid service providers; and promoting coordination and networking among legal aid service providers.

Center for Justice, being part of the program lead by UNODC-Ethiopia Office, will implement the capacity building to legal aid service providers; and coordination and networking among legal aid service provider’s parts of the program. Accordingly, Center for Justice is accepting applications from qualified, experienced and interested individuals for the position and implementation program areas mentioned here under:

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate /Lead  CJ part of the program activities

  • Ensure awareness and compliance with donor policies and guidelines through project kick-off meetings, regular project reviews, and ad hoc support to the implementing teams and sub-grantees.

  • Assist in conducting sub-grantee due diligence, and organize project cycle meetings for sub-grantee.

  • Collaborate on the planning and implementation of organizational capacity assessment

  • Support in the preparation and implementation of training and technical assistant, as required, to address capacity needs and reinforce grants management.

  • Provide technical support, mentoring, and training to sub-grantees.

  • Assist the lead to mentor CSO staff on their internal control systems and documentation process.

  • Assist in organizing meetings, preparing a meeting agenda, and taking meeting minutes.

  • Preparing CJ  part narrative reports

  •  Assist in checking CJ financial reports.

  • Support Sub-Grantees on financial reporting, documentation, and cash forecast, and general donor compliance.

  •  Participate in, and contribute to, sub-grant project review meetings, sub-grant monitoring and trainings as relevant.

  • Collaborate with other program and finance team in conducting on-site assessments of internal controls and providing guidance and technical support to local partners.

  • Keep the program team informed of any Sub-grant compliance issues, major budget fluctuations, significant overspending or under spending as quickly as possible to ensure timely mitigation.

  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience

  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database.

  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand, and coordinate publicity events as required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Economics, business administration or another relevant field, highly desired.

  • Minimum three years of experience with at one or two years’ experience supporting finance, grants and administrative activities for EU-funded programs.

  • Experience with EU-funded projects desired.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English required. Proficiency in other local languages is preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to travel in Ethiopia.

  • Ability to work under pressure and effectively manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Exhibits strong organizational skills.

  • Communicates clearly, politely, and effectively.

  • Demonstrates excellent time-management skills.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with evidence of being able to work under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.

  • Ability to create multimedia content.
