Assistance Coordinator (Data to Action and Maternal Immunization Study)

  • We are seeking to appoint a full-time assistant coordinator for Data to Action (DtA) and Maternal Immunization (MI) study Social and Behavioural Sciences (SBS) activities to be based in Harar, to lead activities attached to the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance activity (CHAMPS) and Maternal Immunization (MI) study. These are a collaboration between Haramaya University, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Emory Global Health Institute. The post-holder will be responsible for assist data to action and maternal immunization activities at household, community, health facility, health offices at different levels.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The post-holders will be responsible for leading the data to action activities in the CHAMPS and MI SBS activities.

Key Responsibilities

DtA Assistant coordinator

  • Support DtA activities in all aspect of HHR, and work closely with the other team leads and overall team in the performance of delivering result for action at all levels

  • Track data to action activities to monitor performances and report the performance of data to action activities at all levels in weekly meetings and quarterly reports

  • Serve as a liaison to the stakeholder leadership structures

  • Work closely with radio and theater team in promoting health

  • Support the establishment of the community, facility and office review meetings on child mortality and pregnancy surveillance

  • Facilitate community dialogue, reflections, and action-planning on child mortality and pregnancy surveillance

  • Develop strong relationships with influential community leaders and groups

  • Nurture and maintain high level of trust with communities and local government

  • Able to navigate sensitive issues with communities

  • Develop written materials including newsletters, leaflets and other printable, documents.

MI Study SBS Assistant Coordinator

  • Support the management of all community engagement activities for MI

  • Organize workshops and document scientific outputs from workshops and other meetings.

  • Liase with the study coordinator and project manager to organize stakeholder mapping and relevant engagement with stakeholders.

  • Organize focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders to understand different segments perception, experience and expectations for introduction of maternal immunization.

  • Undertake analysis of the qualitative data and produce outputs. 

  • Support the establishment of the community review activities for MI

  • Facilitate community and professional society dialogue, reflections, and action-planning on MI.

  • Develop strong relationships with influential community leaders, groups, and local and national government.

  • Nurture and maintain high level of trust with communities and local government

Job Requirements

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements

  • MA in community development, social works, sociology, public health, or other social sciences and two or more years of relevant work experience,

  • Experience in building relationships with communities towards a goal of ownership and participation in health and social programming,

  • Good track record of interpersonal relationship with fellow workers and supervisors,

  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communications skills in English,

  • Fluency in Afan-Oromo and Amharic language,

  • Computer literacy.

Desirable requirements

  • Maternal and child health related training.
