Background
Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international centre based in Uppsala, Sweden, that supports and promotes nonviolent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action. LPI has programmes in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and a Horn of Africa Regional Programme, and maintains active memoranda of understanding with the African Union and Intergovernmental Authority on Development.
From January 2024, LPI will lead a consortium of four partners: Mercy Corps Kenya, Alliance of Local Communities in Hardship Areas (ALCHA) and Pastoralist Concern, in implementing the ‘Mobility and Movement: Cross-Border Resilience in Moyale’ project. The overall objective of this 3 year programme is: to enhance effectiveness of conflict prevention and mitigation, disaster risk reduction and management, and resilience building in cross-border communities in select border areas in the Horn of Africa.

Job title: Project Officer– Mobility and Movement Programme
Reports to: Programme Manager, Mobility and Movement
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Interface/Engagement: Internally coordinates & interacts closely with the Mobility and Movement LPI programme and partners team members in Kenya and Ethiopia. Externally with state and non-state actors in the Moyale region in Ethiopia and Kenya.

Location /Duty station: Moyale , Ethiopia .
1. Job summary
The Project Officer will be responsible for coordinating and delivering LPI mobility and movement programme related activities in Moyale-Ethiopia. This is in close liaison with Moyale-based LPI and partners team members implementing the mobility and movement programme activities. S/he will also be responsible for regular monitoring, and quality reporting on programme progress in Moyale-Ethiopia. S/he will also be responsible for safety and security management processes in Moyale-Ethiopia.

3. Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Leads the implementation, and monitoring of LPI’s Mobility and Movement Programme activities in Moyale-Ethiopia.
· Participates in programme planning (including the design of a MEL system) and budgeting activities in close collaboration with LPI and partner team members.
· Manages financial, and administrative costs associated with programme related activities in Moyale -Ethiopia.
· Provides regular and close accompaniment to LPIs Moyale-based programme partners maintaining close and effective communication and collaboration.
· Engages and actively contributes to key programmatic activities linked to institutional research, learning, reflection and capacity strengthening (regular conflict and policy analysis, monitoring, development and facilitation of training sessions, partner organizational development, co-production of research and policy products).
· Actively participate in organizational fundraising efforts including the design and development of new projects.
· Ensures timely, regular and quality reporting on programme implementation and contributes to broader reporting and liaison with funding partners, state and non-state actors.
· Maintains organizational visibility and reputation from a conflict-sensitive lens in Moyale-Ethiopia.
· Liaises and collaborates with other peacebuilders, civil society, administration, and academia at local, regional, and international levels.
· Participates actively in relevant Mobility and Movement and institutional team meetings and activities.
4.1. Educational qualification:
· A minimum of bachelor’s degree in peacebuilding and conflict transformation, development studies, or other relevant fields (political and social sciences). Master’s degree in relevant field of study desirable.
4.2. Relevant Experience
· A minimum of five years of relevant experience, of which two (2) years in peacebuilding and conflict transformation, livelihoods, natural resource management, and/or related aspects in the NGO sector in Moyale, preferably in cross-border programming.
4.3. Skills & Other Competencies
· Eager and flexible mind, and willingness to acquire new skills on the job.
· Strong facilitation skills with experience in training and learning with a range of actors, including working with diverse teams and groups. Interest and/or experience in methodology design is an advantage.
· Experience in participatory research processes, data collection and analysis, and experience engaging policymakers and influencers at different levels.
· Possession of proficient English documentation and writing skills.
· Fluency in English, Amharic and Borana languages is required.
· Existing robust networks in Moyale -Ethiopia, and ability to travel to programme locations in Ethiopia and Kenya.
· Strong analytical problem-solving, troubleshooting and adaptation skills.
