Job Description

Kurmuk Gold Mine Plc (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp which is a global company with offices in Dubai, UAE and Perth, Australia and has different mine projects in Mali, cote d'ivoire as well as Ethiopia. KGM is the Ethiopian project with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses. All licenses are located in western Ethiopia approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa, or about 90 km north-west of Assosa town in Benishangul Gumuze Regional State.

KGM has been using foreign consultants and local professional support staff to carry out all the exploration and mining activities. The company currently has created job opportunity for more than 200 Ethiopians and expects to employ 1,500 people during the construction and operation of the mining activities.

Summary

KGM would like to invite competent, energetic, and qualified applicants for the following vacancy announcement.

 Main duties and responsibilities

  • Collecting, receiving, labelling, and/or analysing samples or substances using the correct testing equipment, when necessary

  • Proficient in the laboratory diagnosis of tropical and other illnesses prevalent in the region

  • Explaining test procedures to patients

  • Designing and executing laboratory testing in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations, and interpreting findings.

  • Cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment.

  • Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed.

  • Providing technical support, when necessary.

  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.

  • Calibrating equipment, developing standard operating procedures and determining correct reference ranges for tests.

  • Using automated equipment and computerized lab instruments to perform several tests simultaneously.

  • Keeping accurate records of laboratory tests and results, and submitting statistical reports to supervisors.

  • Participating in training/refresher trainings

  • Perform any other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Duty Station: - Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Diploma/ Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, with valid license to work as Laboratory Technician in Ethiopia is required.

  • Minimum 3 years relevant working experience in busy laboratory/medical institutions, International Organizations or NGOs dealing with refugees.

  • Valid laboratory technician license.

  • Proven experience working as a lab technician.

  • Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment.

  • Comfortable handling potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, biohazards, etc.)

  • In depth knowledge of QHSE management systems, preventative measures, and laboratory best practices.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and database systems.

  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.

  • Excellent skill in writing and speaking of English and Amharic languages

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Analytical skills.

Work Experience: 3+ year work experience in same position or related.

Terms of Employment: Permanent after probation period.
