The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is a biomedical research institute under the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia. The Mycobacterial and Other Bacterial Diseases Research Division at AHRI has planned to conduct a study on “Immune dynamics in women with TB infection during pregnancy and post-partum [TBI]”. The study will involve several health facilities, particularly health centers in Addis Ababa to enroll study participants.

The project involves field and laboratory activities and we are looking for enthusiastic, bright-minded, hardworking, and time-conscious candidate to be part of the team as well as envisioning the excellence of the Institute through quality research.

The Role of the Junior Researcher/Study Nurses:

The study nurse shall be based fully at selected health facilities/study sites and perform routine clinical evaluation, recruitment, screening, consenting, and enrollment of potential study participants. 

-          Conduct clinical evaluation of the study participants according to the research ethics.

-          Recruit, screen, and enroll eligible participants.

-          Ensure eligibility criteria for proper enrollment of potential study participants.  

-          Perform the consenting process with eligible study participants.

-          Fill in clinical evaluation, laboratory results, and other necessary information on the study questionnaires/CRFs and Redcap database.

-          Collect specimens from eligible study participants, pool them, and transport them to the AHRI lab.

-          Trace and follow study participants on a timely basis together with the study 

Job Requirements

Personal Specification: Essential Skills and Experience

-          BSc degree in Nursing or any health-related field with a minimum GPA of 2.75 for Females and 3.00 for Males

-          Training in programmatic and clinical management of TB

-          Phlebotomy and other related clinical skills

-          Tolerance to do routine tasks at a health facility level

-          Strong coordination and organizational skills  

-          Attention to detail for quality data record and documentation.

-          Ability to maintain study confidentiality.

-          Training in GCP/GCLP and quality control/assurance (preferred)

-          Experience in nursing/health-related field

Personal Attributes:

-          Personal training/skills in the required position

-          Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proficient English skills 

-          Strong computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet use)

-          Strong organizational skills

-          A high level of attention to details

-          Ability to work with others/teamwork, including international collaborators.

-          Well organized; flexible to working off-working hours or weekends as needed.

Terms and Conditions:

1. Salary: According to the Institute's scale for contract employees

2. Hours of Work: These are governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working late hours and weekends.

3. Length of Contract: One-year contract period
