DEC is a local CSO established in 2007 and re-registered in May 2019 as per the new Authority for CSO Proclamation by the Ethiopian government bearing a registration number of 0009. The organization has five major programs; Child Well-being and Education Development Program, Gender and Life Skill Development, Employable Skills Development Program, Advocacy, and Humanitarian Emergency Program. DEC actively works in six National Regional States and one city administration of Ethiopia namely Amhara, Afar, Oromia, Tigray, Gambela, Benishangul Gumuz, and Addis Ababa City Administration. 

DEC would like to recruit for;

Multisectorial Emergency response project in Dambe Woreda, Kamashi Zone of Benishangul Gumuz Region for the following positions 

Major Duties and Responsibilities of  Sanitation and Hygiene Project Officer

• Lead the development of work plans for the  project implementation at the field level,

• Coordinate and provide technical support for  WASH  Committees and Clubs

• Guide the environmental health aspects of school design, construction, and maintenance

• Integrate WASH messages into the community through  dialogues  and other related  events

• Supervise and monitor Communities' use of WASH facilities,  WASH kits /NFI distribution

• Inspect community  WASH facilities when on duty to ensure they are properly used and maintained

• Serve as a trainer  and monitor colleagues to ensure various WASH messages are in practice

• Work to link the community WASH activity with Government  WASH services

• Monitor environmental health conditions and water quality as well as the health condition of communities

• Provide training and advice for  communities,  local people, teachers, school boys, girls, and parents on water, sanitation and hygiene Water Sector

• Communicate, document, and share WASH best practices and innovations from the ground and in the system

Applicants should have:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and excellent awareness about communities, government structure, etc

• Good in speaking and writing English and also speaks the local language fluently

• Good report writing skills; able to collect documents and share records and information.

• Ability and willingness to travel and work in any place where the project is implemented within approved security frameworks.

• Basic computer skills and mobile literacy are desirable. 

• Experiences of working in NGOs and communities at the grass root level are advantageous

• Experiences in volunteering, community service, and passion for development work are advantageous.

• Work experience in productive areas and knowledge of local culture is advantageous

• Excellent networking skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
