Job Description

Wine making has been a part of the Ethiopian culture for more than a millennium, dating back to the Axumite era. Although this traditional method has survived all that time, the methods, quality, and variety stayed the same. In 1943 GC (1936 Ethiopian Calendar), a Greek family started the first winery in Ethiopia around followed by an Italian family who established their winery at Mekanisa. The two ventures where nationalized in 1973 and regrouped in one entity that was named Awash Wine. Since that time, we have grown to be one of the country’s most loved brands-a market leader that is interwoven with the cultural fabric of the county.

The goal is to manage a company’s sourcing capabilities and supply chain. He/She is responsible for strategizing and negotiating with suppliers and vendors to acquire the most cost-effective deals and to reduce procurement expenses.

 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure availability of Supply Chain, Commerce and Business Services Related Purchases.

  • Builds solid and reliable supply sources based on Sourcing Plans for each purchase category.

  • Assures procurement of materials and services at the right price, right quality and delivery schedule for all locations in Ethiopia.

  • Coordinates Sourcing/production of materials & services and monitors delivery.

  • Anticipates and detects problems that may interrupt delivery and proactively advises solutions and supply alternatives.

  • Understands the Winery’ investment (CAPEX) plans and plans the sourcing activities accordingly.

  • Supplier Selection and Development.

  • Records relevant supplier information in a Supplier database.

  • Develops local suppliers together with the relevant internal business owner.

  • Supports in carrying out audits of its suppliers in line with the Awash Wine Policy.

  • Identify and manage key supplier relationships with the aim of long-term saving on procurement cost while upholding quality including negotiations on contracts.

  • Implement effective internal controls and ensure the proper design and functioning of ‘client-oriented’ procurement management systems.

  • Cost effective procurement of Materials

  • Formulates policies and procedures aimed at achieving an acceptable purchase price for all materials and achieving total cost of ownership reduction.

  • Rationalizes specifications and standardizes purchasing practices.

  • Assures execution of the purchasing procedure ensuring transparency in all business deals.

  • Reports the historical and expected financial performance of the relevant categories .

  • Continuously evaluate whether the procurement's are at the best possible price to maximize profitability through market research.

  • Contracting & Contract Management

  • Leads the creation of solid contracts in line with the Awash Wine Standards and in cooperation with Legal Affairs.

  • Ensures both the supplier and the Winery work according to the conditions and agreements set in the Contract.

  • Ensures proper administration and archiving of supplier contracts and monitors expiry/renewal dates.

  • Monitors and reports supplier performance.

  • Work with the user departments to define the product requirements, liaise with the other Departments on their procurement requirements and ascertain supplies specifications as may be required.

  • Set up and maintain administrative arrangements for effective and efficient contract management, including stakeholder communication, governance, and performance monitoring arrangements, payments, and file/record management.

  • Oversee the preparation and enforcement of detailed tender specifications and performance standards to facilitate procurement of goods, works and services in compliance with procedures and regulations.  

  • Oversee all supplier due diligence activities including supplier risk profiling to ensure a good knowledge of the supplier to minimize procurement risk.

  • Undertake research into best practice contract management and adopt these practices in the contract management practices of the company after approval.

  • Conduct contractual monitoring to provide assurance of service delivery in line with strategy and contract and report on compliance and delivery performance.

  • New Product Development

  • Uses own and purchasing team’s knowledge of the supply market in developing new products. Close cooperation with the relevant business owner.

  • Seeks new suppliers or manufactures that can meet newly required specifications and delivery schedules.

  • Continuous Process Improvement

  • Makes sure that all sourcing activities are in line with the Global Awash Wine Standards and Policies.

  • Monitors and evaluates performance of suppliers and own company activities to improve customer satisfaction.

  • Creates a competitive environment through tendering and structured negotiations by its purchasing team.

Job Requirements

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE:

  • MA or BA Degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Management, Finance, Procurement, Logistics

  • At least eight years’ experience in supply chain, procurement, or related field of which at least 5 years’ experience at managerial level in FMCG
