DEC is a local CSO established in 2007 and re-registered in May 2019 as per the new Authority for CSO Proclamation by the Ethiopian government bearing a registration number of 0009. The organization has five major programs; Child Well-being and Education Development Program, Gender and Life Skill Development, Employable Skills Development Program, Advocacy, and Humanitarian Emergency Program. DEC actively works in six National Regional States and one city administration of Ethiopia namely Amhara, Afar, Oromia, Tigray, Gambela, Benishangul Gumuz, and Addis Ababa City Administration. Education in Emergency EIE project officer    

Major Duties and Responsibilities of  Education in Emergency EIE Project Officer   

  • Work closely with the  Area office managers and  Coordination office project focal person and expertise in implementing and developing all aspects of education in emergency project.

  • Compile and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans and reports to the Project Area  office  managers   and Coordination office   project focal person

  • Regularly follow up on school activities, learning of formal and informal targeted schools classes, identify needs of training, plan training, implement and report.

  • Closely work with ALP/ ASR ( informal )  class  facilitators  in reviewing the status of standard benchmarks

  • Plan a joint monitoring visit to schools and facilitate feedback sessions and regular discussion forums with the Wereda Education officials, supervisors, and School directors and participate in cluster meetings with existing platforms

  • Represent Development Expertise Center (DEC)  in the Wereda Education meetings, workshops and activities, cluster meeting

  • Develop an effective and sustainable bridge between the local Education Authorities, school administration, and Development Expertise Center (DEC)   with good communication, representation, and feedback.

  • Establish good relations with the local civil administration and community leaders, particularly the women’s development group, parents, and children.

  • Work closely with the entire Child well-being and education development program and other thematic areas in implementing and developing all aspects of the education project, with a focus on clarifying to the community the role and responsibilities of the PTAs and Development Expertise Center (DEC).

  • Work with communities to encourage enrolment of girls and boys and suggest strategies  and enhance the protection, participation, and best interest of children  

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and overseeing facilitators/teachers  -training programs and ensure follow-up, monitoring, and evaluation is done to support the teachers.

  • Supervise to ensure timely and accurate delivery of material supplies to schools and ensure proper distribution plans and documentation are in place.

  • Manage and account for cash/floats for activities such as PTA training and community mobilization workshops, local education authorities’ capacity-building workshops, and other components of training programs.

  • Lead workshops for teachers, communities, PTAs, children, and others as designated related to the value of education and the links between child protection and education.

  • Ensure that all Development Expertise Center (DEC)   supported schools are visited regularly, and data collected and documented.

  • Develop a monthly individual activity plan and support the field office manager in developing similar activity plans for the effective implementation of project activities.

Job Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and excellent awareness about communities, government structure, etc

  • Good in speaking and writing English and local languages.

  • Good report writing skills; able to collect documents and share records and information.

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in any place where the project is implemented within approved security frameworks.

  • Basic computer skills and mobile literacy are desirable.

  • Experiences of working in NGOs and communities at the grass root level are advantageous

  • Experiences in volunteering, community service, and passion for development work are advantageous.

  • Work experience in productive areas and knowledge of local culture is advantageous

  • Excellent networking skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Year of experience

  • 2 years of experience  in the NGO Sector and Education In Emergency (EIE)

Qualification

  • BA  degree in  Education  and  / BED or  EDPM   Degree
