Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the PHE-EC Executive Director,Gender, Youth and Safeguaridng Advisor coordinates and ensures efficient and effective integration and inclusion of gender and social issues into the MaYEA Program interventions inline to the other PHE-EC programs, policies and values. The incumbent will also be responsible to develop appropriate mechanisms and systems and ensure gender and youth engagement and safeguarding within the program. She/he coordinates the program’s gender and youth engagement and safeguarding activities, and be responsible for developing and delivering training and awareness-raising sessions at all levels.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Developing and leading on gender, youth engagement and safeguarding initiatives

  • Developing and delivering TOT to PHE-EC with specific focus to MaYEA program cluster staffs on gender, youth engagement and safeguarding

  • Creating outreach and engagement programmes for young people

  • Proactively works with other program team members of the PHE-EC and partners to ensure the safe and meaningful engagement of female and young people.

  • Ensure Organization safeguarding policy is familiarized among the program staff.

  • Work with Organization HR and program staffs on installing safeguarding cases reporting system and functioning of the system.

  • Aware on MCF Child and Youth Safeguarding Guideline for the MaYEA program and other PHE- EC staffs.

  • Ensure that the 80% the MaYEA program beneficiaries are young women.

  • Provide technical backstopping to clusters on the theme

  • Supporting youth groups to build capacity and develop effective strategies on safeguarding and gender

  • Prepare gender and safeguarding related reports for the MaYEA program and other PHE-EC Program if needed.

  • Conduct other activities as deemed necessary.

Reports to: Executive DirectorDuty Station: Addis Ababa with frequent travel to program/project areas

Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications and requirements:

Education Background

  • MA/MSc in Gender, Social works, sociology, psychology and other related social science fields with proven practical experiences,

Work Experience

  • Minimum of three years relevant experience to the job position

  • Two years experiences in promoting gender equality and social inclusion

  • Atleast two years of experience in CSOs/NGOs

  • Substantial experience of gender and youth engagement and safe guarding in development setting

  • Experience at providing advice, developing and delivering on keeping female and young people safe on a diverse range of issues and to a diverse audience

  • Demonstrable experience of working with youth

 Skills/Knowledge and Competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of meaningful participation and engagement of female and young people and deep understanding of safeguarding and protection issues that may arise.

  • Expertise, technical knowledge and substantial experience in responding to issues, breaches and investigation and case management.

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.

  • Knowledge of human rights, national, regional and international legal frameworks, young people rights, inclusion and gender equality

  • Knowledge and experience on safe programming

  • Ability to change behaviour/attitudes in non-confrontational manner and with evidence.

  • Excellent report writing and communication in English

  • Advanced computer skills
