Back ground

Association of Pastoralist Community for Change (APCfC) is a local Non-Governmental Organization registered with Oromia Attorney General Bureau (OAGB) in accordance with the Oromia Regional State proclamation for Civil Society Organizations with a certificate No WB/03/0099.

Currently,  APCfC is implementing Peace building, Humanitarian Assistance and Triple Nexus Projects in Pastoralist areas of Oromia regional state with financial support from the Dan Church Aid(DCA), CST Ethiopia and GIZ-Civil Peace Service. To meet its organizational objectives APCfC calls for competent professionals to apply for the following vacant position.

Position Summary:

The position holder, under the supervision of Women empowerment officer, will be responsible for the implementation of women’s empowerment and protection components of the Nexus project activities in the target localities described above by working directly with communities and program participants/beneficiaries and ensure that they receive appropriate services and supports. She/he is responsible in organizing women self-help groups and provision of need-based support to the established groups through awareness raising, coaching and capacity building. She/he is also responsible for facilitation of peer-to-peer sessions and creation of safe spaces for GBV survivor women and girls and sensitize /aware t women and girls, school community   on safe GBV disclosure and referral linkage   of survivors to access GBV specialized services (medical, psychosocial, safety/security, basic need and legal).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the smooth implementation of activities on women’s social and economic empowerment and linking GBV survivors by working directly with women and girls and protection/GBV service providers to ensure that they receive appropriate services and supports.

  • Participate in beneficiary identification including assessments of Households for social and economic empowerment and support.

  • Facilitate for the establishment of Women Self-help groups (safe spaces) and their proper function.

  • Support for program participant Women and older adolescent girls to access group Psychosocial support at their respective areas.

  • Participate in the Provision of SHG package training to target women and support the cascading of the package to others.

  • Closely work with project team, women program participants, target households and community leaders.

  • Facilitate smooth implementation of Women Empowerment and protection activities in the target localities by working directly with communities of concern and ensure that they receive appropriate services and supports.

  •  Facilitate peer-to peer sessions (group PSS sessions.)

  • Facilitate Women group meetings on different topic sessions, facilitate household level Women Empowerment exercises, and facilitate Community level events

  • Perform other duties as per directed by supervisor.

Required number: 4 (Four)

Duty Station: Bede, Laga-Sure kebeles in Moyale, and Degaga and Gololcha Kebeles in Dire Woreda

Terms of Employment: Ten months (with the possibility of extension), Full time

Basic Salary: Birr 9,770.00(Nine thousand two hundred twenty) plus 30% hardship Allowance

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience Required:

  • Diploma or Degree in Gender, Education, health , Psychology, Social work,   teaching ,and/or other related behavioral/social science fields with minimum of 3 for Degree holders and 5 years and above for Diploma holders with practical experience on community mobilization, protection, Women Empowerment, self-help group facilitation as, social worker, community facilitator or similar positions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Gender and Women Empowerment, experience in social or humanitarian related work and community mobilization activities

  • Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people including Women Groups including experience in facilitation of women groups’ peer-to-peer sessions, coordination of community level meetings

  • Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility and drive for results; good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; and ability to work under pressure.

  • Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity; and aware of the socio-Economic situation of communities in Moyale and Dire Woredas of Borena zone.

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with Women Socio-Economic Groups, and project partner organizations

  • Command of MS Package (Word, Excel,); and Strong report writing

  • Fluent in written and spoken Afan Oromo and English languages.
