In our commitment to empower communities, we are currently operational in Doguna Fango and Damot Woyite woredas of Wolita Zone within the SNNP region. As we extend our initiatives, we seek a dedicated and skilled Senior Agronomist to join our field team.

The Senior Agronomist will play a pivotal role in effectively implementing vegetable and fruit production project/s within the specified field area.

Responsibilities include beneficiary selection and verification, distribution of farm tools and vegetable seeds, conducting training sessions, overseeing project implementation, follow-up procedures, monitoring and evaluation, and comprehensive reporting.

This role encompasses significant responsibilities related to Agriculture/ Food Security and livelihood / Nutrition interventions in the SNNP region, specifically in the Wolita Zone. Collaboration with local government entities is essential for successful beneficiary selection, verification, and distribution of entitlements. He/ She is accountable for daily documentation, maintaining a master list of beneficiaries in accordance with IMC policies. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the overall implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of vegetable and fruit production activities. He/ She will secure commitments and ensure accountability for Food Security and Livelihood/Nutrition results within the implementation area. Additionally, the Senior Agronomist will collect and share any feedback from beneficiaries or target communities with the Nutrition Specialist/ IYCF Officers, promptly responding to or escalating issues to the Country Office FSL Manager/Nutrition Program Coordinator. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and adherence to IMC policies, ensuring the successful execution and monitoring of the project's activities in the SNNP Region.

Responsibilities:

 1. Beneficiary Selection and Verification

·      Identify and select eligible beneficiaries for the vegetable production project.

·      Conduct thorough verification processes to ensure the accuracy of beneficiary information.

 2. Distribution of Farm Tools and Vegetable Seeds

·      Coordinate the distribution of necessary farm tools and high-quality vegetable seeds to beneficiaries.

·      Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all distributed items.

 3. Training and Capacity Building:

·      Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs on modern agricultural techniques, crop management, and sustainable farming practices.

·      Conduct regular capacity-building sessions for beneficiaries to enhance their knowledge and skills.

4. Implementation and Follow-up:

·      Oversee the successful implementation of the vegetable production project in the assigned woredas.

·      Provide continuous support to beneficiaries, addressing challenges and offering solutions.

·      Monitor and ensure adherence to project timelines and goals.

5. Monitoring and Evaluation:

·      Establish and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation framework for the project.

·      Conduct regular field visits to assess project progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with set standards.

6. Reporting and Documentation:

·      Compile detailed and accurate reports on project activities, progress, challenges, and achievements.

·      Prepare success stories showcasing the positive impact of the project on beneficiaries and the community.

7. Collaboration and Coordination:

·      Work together with the field nutrition specialist, IYCF Officer, and promoters to ensure holistic support for beneficiaries.

·      Collaborate with stakeholders such as Agricultural and Health Sectors in the area for effective project implementation.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 Education:

Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Community Development and Leadership, Rural Development, Plant Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Science, Food Security, Food Science, Nutrition, Livelihoods, Natural Resource Economics and Management or a related field

 Experience

At least 3 years of proven experience in livelihoods, Agriculture, PSNP, NRM, Agriculture Marketing and Value Chains, and DRR, food security, and/or emergency livelihood/food security, nutrition interventions in NGOs or similar organization in pastoral areas.

 Technical competencies:

  • Proven experience in implementing agricultural or food security projects, preferably in a rural context.

  • Strong knowledge of vegetable and fruit production techniques, crop management, and sustainable farming practices.

  • Excellent communication, advocacy, training, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and local languages.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Substantial experience in managing team, coordinating, mobilizing community, planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented.

  • Able to manage a high workload and meet tight deadlines

  • Knowledge and understanding of humanitarian standards

  • Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word)

  • Familiarity with food security and livelihoods, nutrition, healthcare systems

  • Experience with training of staff in CMAM and IYCF

  • Ability to plan ahead, write donor report, and success stories.

 LANGUAGE:

  •  Fluency in the local language and knowledge of local culture are required

  • Good communication skills; Oral and written with fluency in written and spoken English, and local language is a plus
