Job Description

Three Roots International (TRI) is registered as a foreign non-government organization by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), under the registration no. 4931. Currently, TRI carries out a development  program in Gandagorba Kebele found in Bishoftu, Oromia region. The mission of TRI is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health, and income generating activities. Through our integrated focus on these three dimensions of life, we strengthen families for a flourishing future. TRI invites you, the qualified candidate, to apply for the following position.

Job Summary:

A Community Health Worker (CHW) plays a crucial role in promoting and improving the health and well-being of mothers, children and families in communities. The roles and responsibilities associated with the position in Three Roots International are detailed as follows:   

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

Community Health Promotion:

  • responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating community health promotion programs. The CHW collaborates with local communities to identify health needs, develop strategies, and deliver health education and awareness campaigns on various topics such as hygiene, nutrition, family planning, immunizations, and disease prevention.

Health Assessments and Surveys:

  • conducts health assessments and surveys to gather data on the health status of communities. The CHW collects information on disease prevalence, health behaviors, environmental factors, and socio-economic determinants of health. This data helps inform health interventions and policies.

 Maternal and Child Health:

  • works to improve maternal and child health outcomes by engaging in Care Group Model facilitation and promoting prenatal and postnatal care support, promoting safe delivery practices, facilitating access to immunizations and essential healthcare services for infants and children, and educating caregivers on child nutrition and growth.

Health Facility Support:

  • promotes Sexual and Reproductive Health outcomes among adolescent girls in the Gandagorba area. Support and guidance to health facilities, including Babogaya health center.

Health Data Management:

  • responsible for accurate and timely data collection, recording, analysis, and reporting. The CHW maintains health records, compiles health statistics, and contributes to health information systems to support evidence-based decision-making and health planning.

Collaboration and Networking:

  • collaborates with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, and other health professionals. The CHW  participates in coordination meetings, workshops, and task forces to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint efforts to address health challenges.

Health Education and Counseling:

  • provides health education and counseling to individuals and communities. The CHW may also conduct one-on-one counseling sessions, group discussions, or facilitate community workshops on topics such as reproductive health, disease prevention, nutrition, hygiene practices, and family planning.

Emergency Response:

  • In times of emergencies, such as natural disasters or disease outbreaks, the CHW plays a critical role in emergency response efforts. The CHW helps coordinate relief efforts, assess health needs, and support the implementation of preventive measures to mitigate the impact of emergencies on public health.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • The CHW monitors and ensures the health program’s engagement with community

Required Qualifications and experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as community health worker or equivalent role preferably in NGO

  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Health Officer or equivalent

  • Proficiency in English, Afan Oromo and Amharic

  • Proven communication and report writing skills
