Job Description
Purpose:
Under the supervision of his/her line manager, the Social Safeguards Specialist will be responsible for coordination and implementation of social safeguard related aspects under National Tobacco Enterprise’s varied programs at Hawassa Leaf Operation Center. He/she will also take on an independent role in dealing with complaints from external parties affected by Hawassa Leaf Operation Center activities in relation to the application of safeguards.
The Social Safeguards Specialist shall work closely with the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist and the relevant stakeholders to implement Social Risk Management Plans, Grievance redress mechanism, Risk Communication and Community Engagement Plans.
Main Areas of Responsibility:
Serving as a focal point person on social issues including for community grievances and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to address any challenges.
Coordinate community interactions and activities with internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee the grievance redress mechanisms to ensure any issues are resolved in a timely manner.
Participating in projects implementation of all social issues including safeguards; facilitate the preparation of action plans and review implementation of social issues and preparation of any documentation and reports required.
Ensure that social issues have been adequately addressed in all activities of Hawassa Leaf Operations Center and advising internal stakeholders on major or sensitive matters relating to social impacts and risks.
Coordinating the mainstreaming of social issues in Hawassa Leaf Operations Center and implementation in accordance with agreed safeguard instruments (Environmental and Social Management Framework, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Environmental and Social Management Plan and Grievance Redress Mechanism Guideline).
Receive complains from external stakeholders, identify potential sources of grievance with external stakeholders of the LOC and manage received grievances as per the grievance handling policy.
Submit monthly report to immediate supervisor; ensuring that all social issues including safeguard implementation are assessed and reported in the periodical reports and in the Midterm Review and Project Completion Report.

Manage various tasks and projects as they arise and upon manager’s request.
Educational Background:
Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or other related field of Social Sciences from a recognized university.
Work experience:
At list 4 (four) year experience in related areas.
