Job Description

FH Ethiopia is a non-governmental organization engaged in relief and development activities. At FH, we operate under a set of guiding principles we call the “The Heartbeat”. This includes our Values, Vision and Purpose, which serve as the explanation of who we are and how we work as organization. Together we follow God’s call responding to human suffering and graduating communities from extreme poverty. FH Ethiopia would like to invite potential candidates to apply for the mentioned position:

Position: Public Relations Coordinator

Duty Station: Addis Ababa 

Duration of Contract: One-year contract, renewable (with 60 working days of Probation)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Public Relations Coordinator, using FH’s branding and publicity policy; create, build, and maintain FHE’s image in country and increase FHE’s acceptability as good partner  among government, partners, and donors.

  • Following FH’s “Branding Policy”, standardize and maintain all FH’ brands all over the country, in terms of logo usage, roadside sign posts, building’s painting, placards,  banners, t-shirt printing, and all other promotional materials productions.

  • Organize public and private media coverage in collaboration with program directors and project managers  for all new projects agreements, inaugurations physical activities  and phasing out of projects

  • Media monitoring and prepare necessary corrections and explanations that arises from the media in relation to FHE’s activities

  • Prepare Expo and represent FHE whenever necessary

  • Take quality pictures, videos and success stories for marketing and periodical reports purpose.

  • Edit periodical program reports before it is sent to the HO and donors

  • Participate different meetings by representing the organization at Region level and communicate the meetings to the concerned unites and projects

Position Outputs

  •  Improved visibility of FH in all operation zones and Regions where FHE is working

  • Quality and number of documentary videos, stories and photographs for social media and marketing

  • Quality, timely and number of messages prepared for appropriate  mainstream and social medias

  • Number of media monitoring reports

  • Number of publications prepared for publicity and visibility of FH

Job Requirements

Job Level Specifications

➢      Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies;

➢      Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, working area language (Amharic) and other local languages

➢      Effective interpersonal skills,  intuitive, tact and a high sense of responsibility,

➢      Analytical, training/facilitation skills;

➢      Sensitivity to different aspects of diversity (cultural, religious, disability), firm belief in teamwork.

➢      Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills

➢      Graphic design, photography and videography skills are mandatory

Computer skills 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science and International Relation, and social science fields, or in any other relevant fields. MA/ MSc Degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of six years’ experience in NGO’s marketing, communications, policy advocacy, public relations, knowledge management. Out of which a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position. 

Supervisory Responsibility

⮚The position has no supervisory responsibility.

Language

⮚ He /she should be Proficiency in both spoken and written English. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Safety & Security Responsibility

⮚ Ensures that safety and security costs are included in all program budgets.  These include, but not limited to: staff training on safety and security, site enhancements for safety and security, human resources (security officers), purchase/ maintenance of basic safety and security resources & tools and budgets for safety and security assessments.

⮚ Communicating with staffs in Field Offices and operational areas periodically and making sure that all staff members are aware of the safety and security procedures;

⮚ Facilitating implementation and revision of Country Office procedures when required.  This includes identifying potentially risky situations and suggesting corrective measures;

⮚ Encourages compliance of Safety and Security principles and policies of the organization by all staffs;

⮚ Takes the leadership in the management of Safety and Security in the Head Office and Projects.  This includes identifying factors that increase risk, finding ways to reduce risk and planning ahead;

⮚ Ensuring that all employees, local/foreign interns, as well as external consultants submit an updated Record of Emergency Data to their travels out of their base stations to accomplish FHE’s mission.

Gender Responsibility

⮚  Publicly endorse FH is gender sensitive and inform the mandates of the Gender & Diversity groups, gender advisors, and gender focal Points.

⮚ Approve funding for a full slate of gender activities and implementation

⮚ Enforce the sexual harassment policy and on field visits, raise gender issues with staff, and spend time with Gender Focal Points.

⮚ Using review meetings, field visits, and other methods, clarify that Senior Management is strongly committed to the principle of equal opportunity for women and men, and a true gender balance in staffing.

⮚ Review and approve the HR or Gender Advisor’s feedback or recommendation on addressing male, as well as female grievances. 

⮚ Facilitate female staff participation in local and regional networks, as well as seminars and cross visits.
