Position Overview:

East African Holding is seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal Advisor to join our esteemed team. The ideal candidate will provide expert legal counsel and strategic guidance, ensuring compliance and facilitating our diverse business interests across East Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 • Legal Counsel:

 • Offer comprehensive legal advice and support to internal stakeholders on a wide spectrum of legal matters within East African jurisdictions.

 • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of agreements, contracts, and legal documents, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.

 • Compliance and Governance:

 • Monitor and ensure compliance with government regulations, industry standards, and corporate governance practices.

 • Conduct periodic legal audits and assessments to ensure adherence to legal requirements.

 • Research and Analysis:

 • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on complex legal issues affecting the holding company and its subsidiaries.

 • Stay updated on legal developments, changes in legislation, and emerging trends affecting the company’s operations.

 • Collaboration and Representation:

 • Collaborate closely with external counsel and regulatory bodies, if required, on specialized legal matters.

 • Represent the company in legal proceedings, negotiations, and other legal forums as necessary.

 • Advisory on Strategic Initiatives:

 • Provide guidance on corporate structuring, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic initiatives. 

Job Requirements

 • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent degree from a recognized institution; an LL.M. or additional certifications is a plus.

 • Admission to the bar in one or more East African jurisdictions is required.

 • 10 years of progressive experience practicing law, ideally in corporate law, with a focus on Ethiopian legal frameworks.

 • In-depth knowledge of East African legal systems, regulations, and business practices.

 • Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a prominent East African holding company or conglomerate.

 • Specialized expertise in areas like commercial law, regulatory compliance, or international transactions.

 • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the East African region.
