Job Description

Background:

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI, https://ahri.gov.et) established in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations as a leprosy research institute made breakthrough contribution in understanding the immunology and eventual improved treatment (MDT) that changed the global landscape of leprosy epidemiology. Re-organized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 376/2016 as biomedical research, clinical trial and biomedical research capacity building arm of the Federal Ministry of Health. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Save the Children works to improve children's lives around the world. These three institutions are working in partnership on Research for Sustainable and Scalable Solutions (RESONATE) for Under-immunisation in Ethiopia and Nigeria. The project is a multidisciplinary research program aiming to improve vaccination uptake of un-and-under-immunized children.. To attain its aim we are planning to conduct A pre-intervention mixed methods study to inform a large-scale programme to increase childhood vaccination in Ethiopia  in three regional states

Thus, AHRI is seeking to appoint two research assistants for the RESONATE project.  The research assistants will be part of the RESONATE research team at AHRI with frequent travel to the field site in Amhara, Oromia and Somali Regional states. The position holders are   expected to carry out administrative and scientific work in line with study protocols with the following duties and responsibilities.

Main duties and responsibilities;

 ·         Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), data collection tools and training materials

·         Plan, organize and train survey data collection team

·         Conduct multilingual qualitative and quantitative interviews  in health facilities and in the community

·         Conduct supportive supervision to support field data collectors.

·         Transcribe and translate qualitative data

·         Conduct quality control and consistency checking procedures periodically when the data collection is on progress

·         Communicate with the data manager and project coordinator for data quality control regularly.

·         Analyze quantitative and qualitative data , write a report and draft a manuscript

·         Assist in  dissemination of findings to policy makers, other stakeholders, and academic audiences

·         Contribute to preparation of journal articles and conference reports

·         Coordinate the project field work and implementation of activities alongside the project coordinator

·         Ensure effective communication between the multi-disciplinary RESONATE research team

·         Coordinate the RESONATE team in other thematic area in achieving project milestone as assigned by senior staffs

·         Coordinate other related duties as assigned by the project

Job requirement

 Qualification & Experiences:

  • MPH/MSc in public health or related fields

Experiences:

·         Minimum of 3 years experiences of work in MPH/MSc in public health or related fields

·         An experience in project work and coordination is advantageous. 

·         Have adequate research experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods and published in reputable journals

·         Demonstrated research communication and interpersonal communication skills

·         Demonstrable organization and communication skill

Desired Competencies

·         Knowledge of different qualitative and quantitative data management software and Microsoft excel applications

·         Practical Stata software experience and NVivo or MAXQDA,   has additional advantage

·         Knowledge of different data analysis and management techniques

·         Fluency in English communication (spoken & written)

·         Fluency in Amharic, Afan Oromo  and Somaligna is advantageous

 Number  required: 2 (Two)

 Employment: Full time contract basis for four months with possible extension based on performance.

  Salary: 15767 Birr/month
